S Club 7<\/a>\u2019s Jon Lee has opened up about his past struggles with drugs and how crystal meth \u2018almost killed\u2019 him.<\/p>\n The pop star rose to prominence in 1998<\/a> when the band was formed by ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller, also comprising Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole<\/a>, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O\u2019Meara<\/a>, Hannah Spearritt<\/a>, and Rachel Stevens<\/a>.<\/p>\n Lee rejoined the pop group for smaller reunions in the 2010s, including the 2023 arena tour, which took place without Spearritt<\/a>, who left when Cattermole died of heart failure<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a new interview, the 43-year-old singer has admitted he once spent \u00a3250 per week on crystal meth, a habit that began long after S Club\u2019s heyday.<\/p>\n It also led to him being sectioned in 2019.<\/p>\n \u2018I didn\u2019t even recognise myself at that time,\u2019 he recalled. \u2018Sometimes, in the midst of one of the psychotic episodes where I\u2019d be smashing my flat up with a hammer, I\u2019d catch sight of myself in the mirror and say, \u201cWhat the f**k?\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t Crystal meth, a highly addictive recreational and performance-enhancing drug, can boost energy levels and confidence in the short term, but its longer-term health impacts can be devastating, such as serious depression, anxiety, memory loss, aggression, and hallucinations.<\/p>\n On how it took over his life, Lee reflected to MailOnline<\/a>: \u2018I\u2019d have a moment of lucidity, thinking, \u201cI was a successful young man; I had a brilliant career, incredible life. What am I doing?\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n There were points when he found himself with \u2018holes in the walls around [him]\u2019 and \u2018cuts all over [his] knuckles\u2019, as well as a \u2018swollen eye\u2019 from punching himself in the head.<\/p>\n Lee would sleep with a hammer underneath his bed, once breaking down his bathroom door out of paranoia after hallucinations convinced him there were other people in his apartment.<\/p>\n \u2018I didn\u2019t look anything like Jon from S Club, or what people would expect Jon from S Club to look like,\u2019 he admitted, having also shaved his head in his thirties.<\/p>\n His addiction struggles came to a head when concerned neighbours called police, after which the Reach hitmaker was sectioned, having been transported to a clinic via ambulance.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t Acknowledging that he was a \u2018danger to [himself]\u2019, he said someone would sit outside his room, and he had to leave the door open.<\/p>\n Lee, who also took\u00a0the party drug GHB, which is a type of liquid ecstasy, now has immense \u2018regret\u2019 for what his family went through during that period.<\/p>\n \u2018I\u2019m not sure how I\u2019m still here,\u2019 he stated, having previously taken four times the dose in his darkest moments with the intention of not waking up the next day.<\/p>\n He also used hard drugs as a distraction from his grief after his dad\u2019s death from Motor Neurone Disease\u00a0(MND) in 2014.<\/p>\n While once unable to leave his flat for days on end, Lee went travelling three years ago to find himself.<\/p>\n In India, he met a rescue dog, which he claims gave him a new purpose, resulting in him returning to the UK in 2022 with three rescues of his own.<\/p>\n \t\t Lee moved to Cornwall, living next door to his mum and sister.<\/p>\n Career-wise, Lee is set to appear on the next series of Celebs Go Dating.<\/p>\n And it\u2019s believed Lee found the love he was looking for in the pre-recorded E4 series, as he\u2019s now said to be dating Jordan Fairhurst.<\/p>\n The performer, who came out publicly as gay in 2010, is said to have felt sparks fly \u2018instantly\u2019 upon meeting his new boyfriend under the dating agency.<\/p>\n \u2018There was a real connection there from the get-go, and things developed really quickly,\u2019 a source told The Sun<\/a>. \u2018They have been on a few dates on the show, but now they are official and in a full-blown relationship.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Jon never expected to find something serious on the show, but Jordan really took him by surprise,\u2019 added the insider.<\/p>\n \u2018Fans will see how the relationship develops on the show, but it\u2019s one of the love stories of the series.
