Heavy showers and thunderstorms will hit parts of Northern Ireland later today, forecasters have warned.<\/p>\n

The Met Office has issued two yellow weather alerts for rain.<\/p>\n

Up to 75mm of rain is possible in some places.<\/p>\n

The forecaster said: \u201cScattered heavy showers and a few thunderstorms are expected during Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cRainfall amounts will vary from place to place but in some locations 20-40 mm is possible within a couple of hours.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeavy downpours of rain will be the primary hazard, but lightning strikes and hail are also possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

‘We are excited to see Rory’ – Shannon Aitken from Canada <\/p>\n

The alert is in place from noon until 8pm today.<\/p>\n

It affects counties Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a second alert for heavy rain is in place between 6pm this evening and 6pm tomorrow, with the Met Office saying it could cause flooding and disruption.<\/p>\n

This alert applies for counties Antrim, Armagh and Down.<\/p>\n

The Met Office said: \u201cA band of rain will become heavy and persistent during Sunday night and Monday, most likely across more eastern and southeastern parts of Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

“There remains a good deal of uncertainty as to the east-west position of this rain band, but where it does occur some places could see 50-75 mm in 12-18 hours.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Spectators at The Open in Royal Portrush have faced heavy showers this week.
