{"id":277151,"date":"2025-07-20T10:49:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T10:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/277151\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T10:49:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T10:49:09","slug":"emma-raducanu-faces-tough-2025-citi-open-draw-venus-williams-makes-comeback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/277151\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma Raducanu faces tough 2025 Citi Open draw, Venus Williams makes comeback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2025 Citi DC Open WTA draw has been revealed, with Emma Raducanu confirmed to have a chance to avenge her Madrid Open loss from May.<\/p>\n<p>The WTA 500 event represents the first opportunity for the players to gain crucial hard-court matches ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Brit reached the last eight \u2013 falling to Paula Badosa in a tight three-set clash.<\/p>\n<p>Badosa then went on to beat Marie Bouzkova 6\u20131, 4\u20136, 6\u20134 in the final to claim her fourth career title.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raducanu<\/a> will open up her Washington campaign against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, whom she lost to 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in the Spanish capital earlier this season. Overall, their head-to-head stands at 2-1 in Kostyuk\u2019s favour.<\/p>\n<p>The 2021 US Open champion did manage to be victorious against the Ukrainian at the clay-court event three years prior via a dominant 6-2, 6-1 performance.<\/p>\n<p>Should Raducanu\u2019s bid for revenge be successful, she would then face either Yulia Putintseva or \u2013 more interestingly \u2013 former Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.<\/p>\n<p>Curiously, the world No 45 hasn\u2019t faced off against either woman before.<\/p>\n<p>The Kazakh has won just one match in the last two months, whilst Osaka last reached the last 32 at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>In the quarter-finals, the Brit would likely face American Emma Navarro, with Maria Sakkari and fellow countrywoman Katie Boulter as other options.<\/p>\n<p>Raducanu\u2019s match was a highly entertaining 7-6(8), 6-4 loss to world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>Clara Tauson and Magda Linette are the two seeds in the other section of the bottom half, as the fourth and eighth seeds, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Latest WTA News<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/raducanu-alcaraz-usopen-doubles-pull-out-criticism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Will Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu pull out of the US Open?
