{"id":277426,"date":"2025-07-20T13:18:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T13:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/277426\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T13:18:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T13:18:12","slug":"brazilian-woman-found-dead-on-normandy-rocks-investigation-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/277426\/","title":{"rendered":"Brazilian Woman Found Dead on Normandy Rocks: Investigation Underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>    Her body was found in the early hours of July 18 below the cemetery of a church<\/p>\n<p>\n        The woman was found near Saint-Nicolas church in Barfleur on July 18<br \/>\n        Marcel Bakker\/Shutterstock\n    <\/p>\n<p>A woman in her twenties was found dead on the rocks below the cemetery of the Saint-Nicolas church in Barfleur (Manche), Normandy in the early hours of Friday, July 18.<\/p>\n<p>The discovery was made shortly after 09:00 by a local walking near the slipway area behind the church, a site overlooking the sea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Initial reports described the woman as British but she has since been identified as a Brazilian national.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was lying among the rocks, between the sea and the cemetery,\u201d a source close to the investigation told TF1. \u201cThe body showed signs of bruising.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emergency services, including the criminal brigade, research division and forensic police, were deployed throughout the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Divers and firefighters also searched the surrounding area to check for a second possible victim, but none was found.<\/p>\n<p>The victim, who has not been publicly identified, had been reportedly staying with her partner in a rented g\u00eete near the harbour.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The couple had been seen together the previous evening. According to investigators, \u201cno line of inquiry is currently being ruled out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not yet know whether the death was accidental or criminal,\u201d the same source said. The man, a Swiss national, was questioned by gendarmes on Friday and again on Saturday. \u201cHe has not been placed in custody or formally implicated,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation is being led by the public prosecutor\u2019s office in Cherbourg, which had not commented publicly by Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>In two unrelated incidents also reported this weekend, a 75-year-old British man died on Friday after falling from a roof in Pressignac (Charente-Limousine).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was reportedly visiting his daughter who has a home in the village, when the roof he was repairing collapsed.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency crews were unable to revive him.
