Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark were forced to miss Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday celebrations this week due to their residence in Washington DC.<\/p>\n

The Danish Royal Family gathered for the special occasion, with Queen Mary’s sisters even travelling from Australia to join the festivities.<\/p>\n

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie relocated to the United States in September 2023 when he took up the role of defence industry attach\u00e9 at the Danish Embassy.<\/p>\n

The couple previously lived in Paris for three years, where the prince served as Military Attach\u00e9.<\/p>\n

The royal couple were spotted with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Vancouver in February, where they cheered on Danish athletes from the sidelines.<\/p>\n

They attended volleyball matches and various events on the final day of the competition for wounded service personnel.<\/p>\n

Their pre-planned visit included meetings with Danish rowing and volleyball teams, followed by a team dinner.<\/p>\n

The Danish royals also participated in two receptions – one specifically for Danish participants and an official Invictus Games reception.<\/p>\n

The prince’s older sons from his previous marriage, Count Nikolai, 25, and Count Felix, 22, are establishing their own careers in Denmark.<\/p>\n

Nikolai graduated from Copenhagen Business School last summer and has developed a modelling career.<\/p>\n

Despite living abroad, the couple frequently travel back to Denmark to see family.<\/p>\n

Prince Joachim attended his brother Frederik’s accession ceremony in January 2024 when Queen Margrethe abdicated after 52 years.<\/p>\n

Queen Margrethe caused controversy in 2022 when she stripped Joachim’s four children of their royal titles.<\/p>\n

She later apologised publicly, stating: “I have underestimated the extent to which much my younger son and his family feel affected. That makes a big impression, and for that I am sorry.”<\/p>\n
