{"id":278092,"date":"2025-07-20T19:17:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T19:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/278092\/"},"modified":"2025-07-20T19:17:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T19:17:16","slug":"pro-palestinian-protest-prompts-scuffle-onstage-at-royal-opera-house-in-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/278092\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro-Palestinian protest prompts scuffle onstage at Royal Opera House in London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON (AP) \u2014 A performer holding a Palestinian flag touched off a brief scuffle on stage at the Royal Opera House in London as cast members were taking their bows following the season\u2019s final performance of \u201cIl Trovatore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Images posted on social media show what appears to be a member of the chorus holding the unfurled flag in front of his chest while the lead singers bask in the audience\u2019s applause on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>After a few moments, someone backstage tries to grab the flag, but the performer holds onto it and snaps back into place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe display of the flag was an unauthorized action by the artist,\u201d the opera company said in a statement on Sunday. \u201cIt was not approved by the Royal Ballet and Opera and is a wholly inappropriate act.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The opera company declined to comment when asked whether the performer would face any disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIl Trovatore,\u201d which translates as \u201cThe Troubadour,\u201d is an 1853 opera by the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi.
