It\u2019s no secret that Princess Diana\u2019s time at the palace was a rocky one, but her rough experience<\/a> may be shaping how her eldest son, Prince William, reigns in the future.<\/p>\n

One of the most challenging places for the Princess of Wales to visit was always Balmoral Castle in Scotland. It was the then-Prince Charles\u2019 favorite place<\/a>, but it was nothing more than a stuffy home to Diana, according to her former butler, Paul Burrell.<\/p>\n

\u201cDiana tried to please Charles, so her times at Balmoral were to please him,\u201d he told Marie Claire<\/a>. \u201cShe wanted to fit in, she wanted to be loved, she wanted to be accepted, and that was all part of that acceptance. \u201c<\/p>\n

Diana was a \u201cmodern woman,\u201d but the Balmoral summers were part of the royal\u2019s \u201carchaic world.\u201d The family loved hunting, schedules that ran like clockwork, and formal dinners that were part of a \u201csuffocating\u201d atmosphere for her. That\u2019s why Burrell believes William is a \u201ccatalyst for change<\/a>,\u201d ushering in a new generation of royals.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s already planning it now,\u201d Burrell claimed. \u201cWhen I see him on the TV, I see his mind working and thinking, \u2018Oh, when I\u2019m king, this is not going to happen.’\u201d Describing him as the \u201cpeople\u2019s [future] king,\u201d the former palace staffer believes that the \u201cpomp and pageantry and excess will not happen\u201d under his reign.<\/p>\n

In November 2024, William ruffled feathers with an interview with The Times<\/a>. He mentioned that his time on the throne will be punctuated by putting \u201ca smaller r in the royal<\/a>.\u201d It had anti-monarchists complaining about William\u2019s work ethic, but the Prince of Wales was undeterred.<\/p>\n

Look no further than the royal blueprint he laid out in November 2023 when he told reporters during his Singapore tour that he will take on less patronages in the future.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to remain focused, if you spread yourself too thin, you just can\u2019t manage it and you won\u2019t deliver the impact or the change that you really want to happen,\u201d he told the print media, via Roya Nikkhah, Royal Editor of The Sunday Times on X.<\/a><\/p>\n

With King Charles III\u2019s illness looming in the background, it\u2019s possible that William\u2019s reign will begin much sooner than initially planned. The modernized monarchy might be just around the corner with a touch of Princess Diana\u2019s legacy at play.<\/p>\n
