A travel warning has been issued to Oasis fans leaving Heaton Park following the band’s final Manchester concert on Sunday night (July 20).<\/p>\n
The M60 remains closed – and will do until at least midnight – following a fatal collision earlier in the evening<\/a>. A full closure is in place on both sides of the carriageway between junctions 19 and 21.<\/p>\n Police have already warned those travelling by bus or car to expect ‘severe delays’<\/a> due to the ongoing investigations taking place on the M60, which is expected to impact ‘thousands’ of Oasis fans heading home from the gig.<\/p>\n Never miss a story with the MEN’s daily Catch Up newsletter – get it in your inbox by signing up here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n A new statement by police also warned that multiple roads around the M60 will likely become heavily congested, causing major delays throughout the night. Rochdale Road is also closed, with alternative diversion routes remaining in place.<\/p>\n “Due to an ongoing police incident the M60 is closed from junction 22 to junction 19. Additionally, A664 Rochdale Road is closed in both directions over the M60,” a statement read.<\/p>\n “Roads in the surrounding area are likely to be heavily impacted by congestion. Road users and bus services may experience severe delays.”<\/p>\n Earlier on Sunday, Oasis fans ditched their cars and walked along the carriageway<\/a> in a bid to make the concert after motorists became stuck in the M60 closure.<\/p>\n Greater Manchester Police<\/a> confirmed that the motorway would be closed until at least midnight between junctions 19 and 21, in both directions, while investigations continued.<\/p>\n A statement read: “We\u2019re warning of severe delays on the M60 tonight after a fatal incident earlier on Sunday. Both directions are expected to remain closed between junctions 19 and 21 until midnight.<\/p>\n “This may impact the thousands of people who are at tonight\u2019s final Oasis concert at Heaton Park. We will have a large number of police resources on the motorway and on local roads to help minimise disruption for concertgoers, the public, and partners.<\/p>\n “We strongly advise people to avoid travelling in the area if they can. Those planning to travel must prepare for severe delays and plan their journey ahead.
