Ellen DeGeneres<\/a> just confirmed that President Donald Trump<\/a> inspired her permanent move to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n Last November, the comedian and former talk show host, 67, and her wife, Portia de Rossi<\/a>, relocated from the U.S. to the English countryside<\/a>. In DeGeneres\u2019 first public appearance since moving to the Cotswolds region, she confirmed reports that she and de Rossi, 52, decided to settle across the pond after Trump, 79, was re-elected, per the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n During a live conversation in the English town of Cheltenham on Sunday, July 20, English broadcaster Richard Bacon asked DeGeneres whether reports that Trump played a role in the move are correct, to which she replied, \u201cYes,\u201d per the BBC.<\/p>\n Initially, the Ellen DeGeneres Show alum thought she and her wife would spend just a portion \u2014 three or four months \u2014 of the year at their \u201cpart-time house\u201d in the U.K., she explained to Bacon at Cheltenham\u2019s Everyman theater. Then, Trump was re-elected<\/a>.<\/p>\n Ellen DeGeneres\/Instagram<\/p>\n Ellen DeGeneres (left) and Portia de Rossi<\/p>\n The couple \u201cgot here the day before the election,\u201d DeGeneres recalled, \u201cand woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, \u2018He got in.\u2019 \u2026 And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n In the same appearance, the comedian also raved to Bacon about life in the U.K., according to the BBC.<\/p>\n \u201cIt’s absolutely beautiful,\u201d the star said, adding that she and de Rossi are \u201cjust not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture \u2014 everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.\u201d<\/p>\n “We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life,\u201d the former California native recalled. \u201cWe love it here.
