{"id":279048,"date":"2025-07-21T04:24:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T04:24:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/279048\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T04:24:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T04:24:12","slug":"london-stock-exchange-explores-possibility-of-24-hour-trading-hours-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/279048\/","title":{"rendered":"London Stock Exchange explores possibility of 24-hour trading hours: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The London Stock Exchange Group (<a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/india\/msci-lse-group-among-11-cos-seeking-esg-rating-provider-registration-11712834891868.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"LSEG\" rel=\"noopener\">LSEG<\/a>) is reportedly considering whether it should introduce 24-hour trading as proposed by several small investors, as per various reports.<\/p>\n<p>The operator of the LSE is in talks over the possibility of extending its <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/companies\/news\/private-credit-ceo-facing-lifetime-trading-ban-appeals-ruling-11752871894671.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"trading\" rel=\"noopener\">trading<\/a> hours \u2014 potentially even moving to a 24-hour schedule, the Financial Times reported, citing sources close to the development.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Discussing practicalities of 24-hour trading\u2019<\/p>\n<p>These FT sources added that the exchange is discussing the \u201cpracticalities\u201d of such a move, including the <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/opinion\/online-views\/aristotle-cicero-hobbes-locke-industrial-revolution-common-law-statute-of-anne-artificial-intelligence-copyright-law-11752502933616.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"technology\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> required and regulatory requirements, impact on dual listings, and liquidity, which is at present consentrated during open and close times of trade at present. However, there was no official comment from the LSEG, the report added.<\/p>\n<p>LSEG is \u201cabsolutely looking at it, whether it means 24-hour trading or extended trading\u201d, one source told FT, newspaper, adding that the exchange group was \u201chaving important <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/india\/speculation-of-such-a-grave-nature-is-unacceptable-and-must-be-condemned-air-india-171-plane-crash-11752384280206.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"commercial\" rel=\"noopener\">commercial<\/a>, policy and regulatory discussions\u201d about the \u201congoing topic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Further, Bloomberg reported that a spokesperson for the LSEG had declined to repond to queries; while Reuters said the response was \u201cno comment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Extending trading hours a trend\u2026<\/p>\n<p>A number of <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/stock-market-news\/zomato-rebrands-itself-as-eternal-on-stock-exchanges-zomato-shares-dip-2-11744171827811.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"stock exchanges\" rel=\"noopener\">stock exchanges<\/a> across the world are already weighing whether to extend the trading hours as more individual investors trade on their smartphones, the BB report said.<\/p>\n<p>It further noted that the New York Stock Exchange (<a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/stock-market-news\/lg-display-sk-telecom-adr-shares-down-over-6-on-nyse-after-trump-imposes-25-tariffs-on-south-korea-11751906919512.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"NYSE\" rel=\"noopener\">NYSE<\/a>), Nasdaq and Cboe Global Markets have applied in recent months to extend their trading hours.<\/p>\n<p>LSEG quarterly results<\/p>\n<p>The LSEG provides data and analytics to banks and other institutions. In the May quarter, it reported stronger than expected first-quarter income, driven by robust growth in its <a class=\"backlink\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/market\/stock-market-news\/stock-market-today-trade-setup-for-nifty-50-global-markets-to-q1-results-today-eight-stocks-to-buy-or-sell-on-monday-11752998938480.html\" data-vars-page-type=\"story\" data-vars-link-type=\"Manual\" data-vars-anchor-text=\"markets\" rel=\"noopener\">markets<\/a> division, and a strong performance across its other businesses, according to the Reuters report.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of IPOs, London has \u201cstruggled\u201d to attract new listings, which led to reforms in 2024, seeking to make it competitive against the NYSE and European stock exchanges, especially after Brexit.
