Sulphites are a group of preservatives used in the production of some foods and drinks.<\/p>\n<p>They can trigger <a data-link-tracking=\"InArticle|Link\" title=\"Allergy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/latest\/allergy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allergy<\/a>-like symptoms such as wheezing, tight chest and cough. When they interact with stomach acid, sulphur dioxide can cause the airway to become irritated and constricted.
