Shawn Porter<\/a> has had his say on a potential clash between Conor Benn<\/a> and Shakur Stevenson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

British contender Benn suffered the first defeat of his career back in April<\/a> when he was outpointed by bitter rival Chris Eubank Jr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.<\/p>\n

A rematch between the pair had been expected to take place on September 20 but it has now been revealed that this will not be going ahead on that date.<\/p>\n

It could now take place in November, but Benn has teased a return to welterweight before the end of the year instead, despite making the jump up to middleweight to face Eubank.<\/p>\n

One option for Benn could be a showdown with reigning WBC lightweight champion Stevenson, after the pair went back-and-forth on the Ariel Helwani Show earlier this month with the American star saying he was willing to move up to 147 for a fight.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Fight Hype<\/a>, retired two-time welterweight champion Porter was asked what he believes Stevenson\u2019s next career move should be, and he urged the 28-year-old not to face Benn.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be to move up and challenge Conor Benn. He can outbox Conor, you know, out-style him and all that kind of stuff but that\u2019s a different punch than the 35, 20, 26 punch, it is, you know, your body can withstand even getting hit on the shoulders and arms and stuff like that but a 47 pound punch on your arms and your shoulders, that\u2019s a little bit different, but outside of that yeah we still want that \u2018Tank\u2019 Davis fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Stevenson made the most recent defence of his WBC crown on July 12 when he outpointed hard-hitting Mexican William Zepeda at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City.<\/a><\/p>\n

The boxing community are still holding out for the 28-year-old to face fellow countryman Gervonta \u2018Tank\u2019 Davis in the future, but it remains to be seen whether the unbeaten American stars will agree to a showdown against each other.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Shawn Porter has had his say on a potential clash between Conor Benn and Shakur Stevenson.
