Harris English’s impressive form in 2025 continued at The Open this weekend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, the American was once again denied a maiden major title by Scottie Scheffler<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The world number one secured his first Open<\/a> with a four-shot victory at Royal Portrush on Sunday.<\/p>\n

In doing so, he scooped $3.1million (\u00a32.3m) in prize money alongside the Claret Jug.<\/p>\n

It is Scheffler’s fifth career Major title and his second in 2025 after glory at the PGA Championship in May.<\/p>\n

His win at Quail Hollow also came ahead of English, who finished tied for second alongside Bryson DeChambeau and Davis Riley.<\/p>\n

With Scheffler earning $3.42million (\u00a32.54m) thanks to that win, his prize money from the two major triumphs this year totals $6.52million (\u00a34.83m).<\/p>\n

In contrast, English’s pair of second place finishes have seen him earn $3.34million (\u00a32.48m) less as well as being denied silverware on two occasions.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old took home $1.76million (\u00a31.3m) from Portrush, having previously scooped just under $1.42million (\u00a31.05m) at the PGA Championship.<\/p>\n

Those two events have earned English a combined $3.18million (\u00a32.36m), helping him climb to eighth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on The Open, he told reporters on Sunday: “Lost to Scottie twice in two majors, the only guy to beat me at the PGA and this week.<\/p>\n

“I wasn’t playing professional golf when Tiger (Woods) was at his peak, early 2000s, mid 2000s, but it’s pretty incredible just how good of a front-runner he is.<\/p>\n

“He’s improved his putting. There’s no stat that he’s bad in. It’s like, how do you beat this guy?<\/p>\n

“But he works so hard, and I see him in the gym all the time, see him practising.<\/p>\n

“He’s one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen and to have the number one in the world working that hard just makes it that much harder to catch him.<\/p>\n

“I’m playing some good golf. Just need to clean it up a little bit.”<\/p>\n

English’s final round 66 in Northern Ireland saw him end the weekend on 13-under-par, with Scheffler finishing on 17-under.<\/p>\n

Despite his Major heartbreaks this year, he has already won on the PGA Tour in 2025.<\/p>\n

His victory at the Farmers Insurance Open in January was English’s fifth career win on the Tour.<\/p>\n

He is also currently on course for an automatic berth on Team USA<\/a> at the Ryder Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

English sits sixth in the rankings, with the BMW Championship in August serving as the cut-off for the automatic picks.<\/p>\n
