A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder<\/p>\n

Police have arrested a 39-year-old woman on suspicion of murder after the body was discovered at a house in Stockport this morning (April 16)<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to Altrincham<\/a> Road, Gatley, before a cordon was erected around a property at 9.38am.<\/p>\n

On arrival, Greater Manchester Police say the body of a 93-year-old woman was found inside. A scene remains in place while the force conducts an investigation.<\/p>\n

Tonight, it has been confirmed a woman was arrested on suspicion of murder. She remains in police custody.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police also confirmed the case has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to previous contact with the deceased<\/p>\n

Detective Inspector Adam Hitchen, Senior Investigating Officer, said: \u201cThe priority for our investigation is understanding the full circumstances which led to this tragic incident and getting justice for the victim. Our thoughts are with the victim\u2019s family, who are aware and are being supported by specialist officers.<\/p>\n

“We recognise that this investigation may cause concern within the local community, but I want to assure the public that this is an isolated incident, with a swift arrest made, and no wider threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will notice an increased presence in the area today whilst we conduct enquiries, but also across the coming days as the local neighbourhood team look to provide reassurance to those living close by.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone with information about this case is urged to contact police on 101 quoting the log number 726 of 16\/04\/25.\u201d<\/p>\n

A neighbour reported that it was all “going off” before they left at around 11 this morning, with fire engines, ambulances, and police all at the scene.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police<\/a> said in a statement: “Officers were called to an address on Altrincham Road at 9:38am. Sadly, a 93-year-old woman was found deceased in the property.<\/p>\n

“Police attended and following initial enquiries at the scene, a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder. She remains in police custody.<\/p>\n

“A scene is in place whilst investigators conduct their enquiries.”<\/p>\n
