<\/p>\nAs British holidaymakers flock to UK airports ahead of the Easter weekend, those heading to Spain have been told to brace for disruption.<\/p>\n
Today, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) warned Britons about planned industrial action in Tenerife that could affect tourists’ plans.<\/p>\n
“Industrial action is planned in the hospitality sector in Tenerife over the Easter bank holiday weekend,” Britons were told.<\/p>\n
“If you’re due to travel to Tenerife this weekend, check your operator’s advice and follow the advice of authorities.”<\/p>\n

The industrial action is scheduled for April 17 and April 18, affecting around 80,000 hotel industry employees.<\/p>\n
According to local reports, as well as Tenerife, the strike is set to impact workers in three other Canary Islands: La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro.<\/p>\n
This follows the rejection of the latest proposal from employers’ associations, despite mediation efforts by Fernando Clavijo, President of the Canary Islands.<\/p>\n
The proposed agreement included a 6 per cent salary increase, the implementation of adjustable beds, and establishing a negotiation table before April 30 to address other labour concerns.<\/p>\n
In good news for some holidaymakers, not all the Canary Islands will be affected by the Easter industrial action.<\/p>\n
Indeed, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura were able to avert the strike after reaching an agreement.<\/p>\n
But for British tourists visiting La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro over the Easter weekend, the strikes could have an impact.<\/p>\n
However, holidaymakers have been assured that the Canary Islands government has mandated minimum service levels to maintain essential operations during this time.<\/p>\n
This measure aims to reduce disruption while allowing industrial action to proceed.<\/p>\n
