{"id":281307,"date":"2025-07-22T01:51:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T01:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/281307\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T01:51:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T01:51:17","slug":"teofimo-lopez-vows-to-send-former-world-champion-into-retirement-itll-be-your-last-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/281307\/","title":{"rendered":"Teofimo Lopez Vows To Send Former World Champion Into Retirement: &#8220;It&#8217;ll Be Your Last Time&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/teofimo-lopez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teofimo Lopez<\/a> has sent a warning shot to a former unified world welterweight champion.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Takeover\u2019 is on a fine run of form since suffering the first defeat of his career to Australia\u2019s George Kambosos Jr back in November 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The 27-year-old from New York City currently reigns as the WBO super lightweight world champion, a title he captured from the grasp of Josh Taylor two years ago.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/teofimo-lopez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lopez<\/a> has now made three successful defences of his crown, the most recent of which came against mandatory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.co.uk\/boxing\/story\/_\/id\/44973123\/teofimo-lopez-defeats-arnold-barboza-unanimous-decision-retain-wbo-junior-welterweight-championship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arnold Barboza Jr on May 2<\/a> when he comprehensively outpointed the challenger over 12 rounds in Times Square, New York.<\/p>\n<p>Though that was a dominant performance at the weight, Lopez has also expressed an interest in moving up.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to ES News, he was asked about a fight with former unified welterweight champion Keith Thurman and, though respectful, said he would absolutely take it.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cKeith Thurman? \u2018One Time\u2019 Thurman? Well it\u2019ll be the \u2018Last Time\u2019 Thurman that\u2019s what I\u2019m gonna call him, \u2018Last Time\u2019 Thurman. You face Teofimo, man, nah you ain\u2019t gonna win that one \u2026 It\u2019ll be a good fight for sure, it\u2019ll be a good fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thurman made his return to boxing earlier this year following a three year hiatus, defeating Australia\u2019s Brock Jarvis via third round stoppage at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. It was Thurman\u2019s first ring appearance since he defeated reigning WBC world welterweight champion Mario Barrios in February of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018One Time\u2019 is expected to campaign at super welterweight going forward.
