{"id":281391,"date":"2025-07-22T02:52:43","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T02:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/281391\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T02:52:43","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T02:52:43","slug":"neil-warnock-reveals-truth-about-sheffield-wednesday-job-offer-he-really-wanted-to-go-despite-blades-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/281391\/","title":{"rendered":"Neil Warnock reveals truth about Sheffield Wednesday job offer, he really &#8216;wanted to go&#8217; despite Blades links"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>EFL veteran Neil Warnock has made a startling admission about his time as Sheffield United head coach regarding their bitter rivals, Sheffield Wednesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/tag\/sheffield-wednesday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> have dominated the <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/tag\/championship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Championship<\/a> headlines this summer for all the wrong reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Overseen by owner <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/tag\/dejphon-chansiri\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dejphon Chansiri<\/a>, the Owls are in the midst of a financial crisis, with an EFL transfer embargo still hanging over Hillsborough.<\/p>\n<p>The club\u2019s financial crisis has seen forward duo <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/opinion\/sheffield-wednesday-fans-will-fear-relegation-in-2025-26-as-key-duo-depart-and-danny-rohl-set-for-exit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Josh Windass and Michael Smith exit Sheffield Wednesday<\/a>, and head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/tag\/danny-rohl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danny Rohl<\/a> will soon join the pair out the exit doors, with <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/news\/danny-rohls-time-at-sheffield-wednesday-set-to-end-as-position-becomes-untenable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rohl set to leave Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> soon.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the club\u2019s financial turmoil, legendary EFL manager Neil Warnock has lifted the lid on his previous move to become the Owls boss, which never materialised.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"705\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-1991145843-1024x705.jpg\" alt=\"Neil Warnock ahead of Rangers FC v Aberdeen - Cinch Scottish Premiership\" class=\"wp-image-7356\" \/>Photo by Ian MacNicol\/Getty ImagesNeil Warnock \u2018would have taken\u2019 Sheffield Wednesday manager job<\/p>\n<p>76-year-old Warnock is one of English Football\u2019s most iconic managers, for his 40-year-long history in the dugout, and his larger-than-life presence.<\/p>\n<p>From 1999-2007, Warnock was the manager of the Owls\u2019 arch rivals, <a href=\"https:\/\/eflanalysis.com\/tag\/sheffield-united\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sheffield United<\/a>, where he suffered relegation from the Premier League with his boyhood club in 2006\/07 after earning promotion from the Championship in the prior season.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Warnock being a boyhood Blades fan, the Englishman has revealed he \u201cwould have taken\u201d the Sheffield Wednesday job after initially being offered the job by former Owls chairman Milan Mandaric.<\/p>\n<p>When probed on whether there was any truth in the Owls links, Warnock told Radio X: \u201cYeah, there was. Yeah, I would have took that, because I\u2019d fallen out with people at Sheffield United, and I thought, \u2018I\u2019ll show them if that\u2019s the case.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I did. I spoke to Milan, who was Milan Mandari\u0107, and I spoke to him, and he offered me the job and all that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I said, \u2018Alright, I tell you what, Milan, because I like you as a person\u2019 \u2013 It was a Friday \u2013 I said, \u2018You have a think about it, and talk to your chief exec and all that that and then ring me up on Monday morning at nine o\u2019clock. I thought I had been messed on at Sheffield United.
