United had two bids turned down for Mbeumo, but a fee of £65 million rising to a potential £71 million was agreed with the Bees last week.

The Cameroon international underwent a medical this weekend and has become the third new arrival of the summer transfer window after Cunha and youngster Diego Leon. He has put pen-to-paper on a five-year deal with the option of a sixth year.

The signing of Mbeumo is not expected to be the end of the transfer business for United this summer, with the club working on more deals, both incoming and outgoing.

So what could be the next three deals to happen following the capture of Mbeumo? Three of our MEN Sport writers have their say…

Amie Wilson

The obvious first transfer that is expected to happen is the departure of Marcus Rashford. The forward is closing in on a loan deal with Barcelona. In a boost to United, the Catalan side will reportedly be paying all of the player’s wages, which could free up some funds for the club in the window.

One of the priorities is an out-and-out striker. Having held a long-term interest in him, I can see United making another move for Red Bull Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, with Arsenal’s attention seemingly turning to Viktor Gyokeres, it opens up a pathway for United to strike.

I think the third transfer will be another departure, with Alejandro Garnacho leaving the club. A move to Aston Villa has been mentioned and it’s a deal that I can see happening.

The January deal that saw Rashford move to Villa on loan means that there is an established relationship between the two clubs and it could make any potential summer move for Garnacho easier to navigate.

Kieran King

Manchester United must target a new striker and goalkeeper now that a move for Bryan Mbeumo has been confirmed. Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Leeds United highlighted the need for the Reds to target a proven centre forward and one that can score at least 15, if not 20, goals in a season.

They should be looking at Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson to strengthen their front line. Although the Blues value the 24-year-old at between £80m and £100m, United should attempt to bring that down and sign him for around £65m – similar to the fee they have paid for both Mbeumo and Cunha.

As for the goalkeeper situation, I would have a look at Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens. He kept 10 clean sheets for the Belgium top-flight side last season and has the potential to become an elite shot-stopper in the future. Instead of moving for Emiliano Martinez, I would invest and sign Lammens.

James Quinlan

In an ideal world not dictated by outgoings, Ruben Amorim would be able to add a striker, midfielder and new goalkeeper to round off his United squad – at least for now. That would just about cover all bases that needed it heading into the new season.

But the reality of it is United’s next three transfers must be to offload the dead weight clinging on.

There looks to be positivity on the Marcus Rashford front, albeit another loan with an option to buy, this time to Barcelona. If any two of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho or Tyrell Malacia could follow on – preferably as permanent departures – then we can start thinking about the next transfers after that, as amongst those could be the new recruits that are so desperately needed.

Get United transfer news and updates on WhatsApp!

Our team of Manchester United experts are on top of all the goings-on at Old Trafford for this week and beyond, and you can get the latest team news, injury updates, reaction and analysis along with inside information to your phone by joining our new free WhatsApp community.
