A man arrested after a PSNI officer was scalded with a liquid during an incident involving a suspect armed with a knife has been released on bail.<\/p>\n
The officer was attending a call-out in east Belfast shortly after 2.15am on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Police received a report from the Fire and Rescue Service of a man armed with a knife inside an apartment in the Coates Row area.<\/p>\n
Firefighters had been responding to a report of a deliberate fire inside the property when the occupant threatened them with a knife at the door.<\/p>\n

Police went to the apartment a short time later, including officers from the armed response unit who attempted to detain the suspect.<\/p>\n
While doing so, the man threw a liquid over one officer, causing scald injuries to his chest and chin region.<\/p>\n
Another was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n
Both of them required hospital treatment. The suspect was initially detained and arrested at the scene on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent, arson to endanger life, and other related offences.<\/p>\n
In an updated statement on Tuesday, a PSNI spokesperson said: \u201cA 35-year-old man arrested on Sunday, 20th July in connection with a firearms-related incident in the Coates Row area of east Belfast \u2013 during which one officer was scalded \u2013 has been released on bail to allow for further enquiries.
