Stephen Colbert<\/a> had a very blunt message for Donald Trump<\/a> after the president <\/a>celebrated CBS<\/a>\u2019s cancellation of The Late Show<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In his Monday monologue, Colbert brought up a Truth Social post Trump made on Friday, where he had written: \u201cI absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Responding to his post, Colbert said: \u201cHow dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking into the \u201cEloquence Cam,\u201d the talk show host did not pull his punches, telling the president: \u201cGo f*** yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s post also mentioned Jimmy Kimmel<\/a>, writing that he heard the Jimmy Kimmel Live host was \u201cnext\u201d and has \u201ceven less talent than Colbert\u201d.<\/p>\n

Referring to that, Colbert said: \u201cNope, no, no. Absolutely not. Kimmel, I am the martyr. There\u2019s only room for one on this cross. And the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house!\u201d<\/p>\n

The talk show host added that for the next 10 months as the show winds down, \u201cthe gloves would be off\u201d. <\/p>\n

CBS confirmed last week it was bringing the long-running Late Show<\/a> to an end in 2026, blaming \u201cfinancial decisions.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n

However, multiple CBS staffers have told The Independent<\/a> they believe it is a continuation of the \u201cTrump shakedown\u201d that began with parent company Paramount\u2019s settlement<\/a> of the 60 Minutes lawsuit over an interview with Kamala Harris, which Trump claimed was \u201celection interference.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Late Show cancellation was met with uproar from celebrities<\/a>, fellow talk show hosts and viewers<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cLove you, Stephen. F*** you and all your Sheldons, CBS,\u201d Kimmel wrote last week in an Instagram Story<\/a>, referring to the CBS show The Big Bang Theory, which has spawned several spin-offs, including Young Sheldon and Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. <\/p>\n

Severance star Adam Scott and producer\/director Ben Stiller, as well as Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, have called out the cancellation. <\/p>\n

At the beginning of Monday\u2019s broadcast, Colbert said that since the network was \u201ckilling off our show,\u201d but had left him alive, he would be speaking \u201cunvarnished truth to power\u201d.<\/p>\n

He began by offering his real opinion on Donald Trump and said: \u201cI don\u2019t care for him. Doesn\u2019t have the skillset to be president. Not a good fit, that\u2019s all.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the network, Colbert called them \u201cgreat partners,\u201d but also questioned their justification for the cancellation asking: \u201cHow could it be purely be a financial decision if The Late Show is No. 1 in ratings?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

CBS bosses said in their statement that the end of The Late Show after 32 years was purely due to late-night television becoming unprofitable because of dwindling ad revenues and high production costs. But the decision comes at the same time as Paramount\u2019s pending $8.4bn merger with Skydance, a production company financed by pro-Trump billionaire Larry Ellison and run by his son David, whom the president has personally lauded.<\/p>\n

Colbert, who took over the show from David Letterman in 2015, announced the network\u2019s decision during the broadcast on 17 July.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext year will be our last season. The network will be ending The Late Show in May,\u201d the comedian announced, causing the studio audience to boo loudly. \u201c Yeah, I share your feelings. It\u2019s not just the end of our show, but it\u2019s the end of The Late Show on CBS. I\u2019m not being replaced.
