Plans for a new housing development in between two industrial sites in Tameside<\/a> are set to be thrown out.<\/p>\n A new scheme which sought to bring 36 affordable homes to Mossley would \u2018result in a poor standard of living for future occupiers\u2019, according to the council\u2019s planning officers.<\/p>\n The proposal has been tabled by Bridgewater Land and Developments Ltd, who say it would bring \u2018high-quality, affordable housing that complements the existing character of the area\u2019.<\/p>\n The land, which has become overgrown with shrubbery and trees, would see the 36 one-bedroom apartments built across two three-storey blocks.<\/p>\n Sign up to the MEN Politics newsletter Due North here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The new homes would sit just a stone\u2019s throw from both the Egmont Street Playing Fields and Mossley Railway Station.<\/p>\n All the homes would be available at an affordable rate (up to 80 per cent of market value).<\/p>\n Planning papers read: \u201cThe buildings will be designed to achieve high energy efficiency standards, incorporating insulation, efficient heating systems and renewable energy sources where feasible.<\/p>\n \u201cGreen spaces and landscaping have also been incorporated into the proposals to promote biodiversity and enhance the development’s environmental performance.\u201d<\/p>\n Join the Manchester Evening News <\/strong>WhatsApp<\/strong> group <\/strong>HERE<\/a><\/p>\n But the site off Egmont Street is sandwiched between two industrial buildings and is land formerly industrial itself.<\/p>\n A failure to justify the loss of employment land; the close proximity to industrial buildings; a lack of outdoor space; and a poor standard of living for occupiers are all reasons planning officers gave for recommending refusal of the plan.<\/p>\n![\"Aerial](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_Aerial-image-of-the-site-off-Egmont-Street-Mossley-earmarked-for-development.jpg\")
