They finished a staggering 19 points ahead of Wrexham in 2nd, but going into next season, both teams are on level footing and looking to take the Championship by storm.

Both Birmingham City and Wrexham have money to spend. Already this summer, Birmingham City have spent £10m on the signing of Kyogo Furuhashi, whilst Wrexham have a £25m transfer budget. Already, the Dragons have smashed their club transfer record with the £4m signing of Cacace, whilst names like Windass will surely add a sizeable chunk to the club’s wage bill.

But the Blues may not be so keen on Wrexham signing Windass. In fact, Birmingham City have been linked with Windass on and off for a few transfer windows now. Wrexham signing Windass is not only a great signing for the club and for Parkinson, but it will also come as a blow to Birmingham City, who will be Wrexham’s rivals in the Championship next year, along with Welsh outfit Swansea City.

Wrexham fixtures

vs Birmingham City

vs Swansea City

Home

4th October 2025

14th March 2026

Away

11th April 2026

20th December 2025

What next for Wrexham in the transfer market after Josh Windass?

Despite the impending arrival of Windass, it looks like we could still see another big-name striker arrive at the Racecourse this summer. Recent reports have revealed how Wrexham have £10m to spend on a new striker this summer, but who that new striker might be remains to be seen.

One striker who could arrive, albeit for free, is Michael Smith. Wrexham wanted to sign Smith in January, and now he’s been released by Sheffield Wednesday along with Windass. He’s seen his links to Wrexham reignited, although Wrexham now face competition from Championship rivals Preston who now want to sign Smith as well.

Elsewhere, former Cardiff City loan man Sivert Mannsverk continues to be linked with Wrexham. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff from Ajax, and Cardiff City fans spoke positively about Mannsverk. His technical ability was clear to see despite the Bluebirds’ struggles in the championship.

So there seems to be a lot of irons in the fire for Wrexham right now. Next, expect the Windass signing to be announced, taking Wrexham’s summer signings tally up to five, now with Ward, Hardie, Cacace, Thomason and Windass.

Wrexham’s transfer window has burst into life in the last week, with reports that the Dragons are about…

[7820
855,12905,748,393,4884,53730,16,15
0":"post-282985","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-birmingham","8":"tag-birmingham","9":"tag-birmingham-city","10":"tag-britain","11":"tag-england","12":"tag-great-britain","13":"tag-josh-windass","14":"tag-uk","15":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
