Liverpool now understand when they will receive greater clarity over one factor that could impact transfer target Marc Guehi’s future. The Reds admire the central defender as they prepare for the new season but will only pounce if they feel the timing is right.<\/p>\n

The Premier League champions<\/a> have been relentless in the summer transfer market with sporting director Richard Hughes leading the charge to land all major targets picked out. Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and soon to join them is Hugo Ekitike<\/a> – the four high-profile names part of a haul worth more than \u00a3200m and counting.<\/p>\n

But with Palace captain Guehi, as the ECHO<\/strong> previously reported, with a contract running out in less than 12 months, they will happily play a waiting game to strike the best agreement possible<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If the Premier League<\/a> club were to relax their valuation of the 25-year-old (rumoured to be around \u00a340m), however, it would expedite the process and could lead to a deal being made directly with Palace. Numerous factors will play a part in that.<\/p>\n

One possible consideration the Eagles will need to take is which European competition they will be playing in next season<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For winning the FA Cup<\/a> in 2024\/25 Oliver Glasner’s side were given a place in next season’s Europa League<\/a>. That was until UEFA stripped them of this honour because of a breach in multi-club ownership rules pertaining to US businessman John Textor’s stake in both them and Lyon.<\/p>\n

Now as the London club confirmed they would be taking responsive action, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)<\/a> has confirmed the lodge of an appeal against UEFA’s ruling.<\/p>\n

A new decision is expected to be announced on or before August 11 – coincidentally the day after the Reds face Palace for the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.<\/p>\n

Whatever the final decision is by this important date in proceedings, it could impact Guehi’s future at Selhurst Park. Depending on how his club reacts to the outcome, that could be down to his club taking a firm stance for or against his sale, or alternatively, how the England international takes the decision into account for his own career.<\/p>\n

Liverpool will hope to be in the fight to retain their Premier League crown and win the other major silverware they are up for next term – an attractive prospect as proven by the talent that have, or are set to, commit themselves to the project this summer.<\/p>\n

But in Arne Slot’s squad is a very well-established pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate – one Guehi would be forced to break his way into.<\/p>\n

One year before the 2026 World Cup, the defender may view it as too risky a move as he hopes to make Thomas Tuchel’s squad.<\/p>\n
