He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>He had been diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>As frontman of Black Sabbath, he was at the forefront of the heavy metal scene \u2013 a deeper, darker offshoot of hard rock.<\/p>\n<p>His theatrical stage presence, including once biting off the head of a bat, and styling himself as the Prince of Darkness marked him out as a controversial figure.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2.68237959.jpg\" alt=\"Ozzy Osbourne performs on stage during the Closing Ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games\" data-title=\"Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games \u2013 Closing Ceremony\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Archive\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Archive\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"David Davies\" data-usage-terms=\"Use subject to restrictions. Editorial use only, no commercial use without prior consent from rights holder.\"  \/>Ozzy Osbourne performs during the closing ceremony for the 2022 Commonwealth Games at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham (David Davies\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>Born John Michael Osbourne on December 3 1948 in Aston, Birmingham, he left school at 15 and did odd jobs including factory work before teaming up with school friend Geezer Butler in several bands.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month he bid a farewell to fans with a Black Sabbath reunion, telling thousands of heavy metal enthusiasts at Villa Park, Birmingham \u2013 a stone\u2019s throw from where Black Sabbath was formed in 1968 \u2013 that it was \u201cso good to be on this stage\u201d as he performed his last set from a large black throne.<\/p>\n<p>Osbourne and his fellow original Black Sabbath members \u2013 Tony Iommi, Terence \u201cGeezer\u201d Butler and Bill Ward \u2013 were the last to appear on stage as part of a star-studded line-up for the Back to the Beginning concert.<\/p>\n<p>Also among the bands performing were Anthrax, Metallica and Guns N\u2019 Roses, and there were messages of thanks from other celebrities, including Jack Black, Ricky Gervais and Dolly Parton.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Black Sabbath\u2019s eponymous debut album in 1970 made the UK top 10 and paved the way for a string of hit records.<\/p>\n<p>They went on to become one of the most influential and successful metal bands of all time, selling more than 75 million albums worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The group were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, and Osbourne was added for a second time last year.<\/p>\n<p>He rose to further fame alongside his wife Sharon \u2013 whom he married in 1982 and with whom he has three children, Aimee, Jack and Kelly \u2013 through their MTV reality TV series The Osbournes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2.36957396.jpg\" alt=\"Ozzy Osbourne with wife Sharon and his Golden God award\" data-title=\"Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards 2018 \u2013 London\" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Archive\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Archive\/PA Images\" data-credit=\"Ian West\" data-usage-terms=\"WCDIRECT\"  \/>Ozzy Osbourne with wife Sharon and his Golden God award at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards 2018 (Ian West\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, Osbourne revealed he had been diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease and he paused touring in 2023 after extensive spinal surgery.<\/p>\n<p>He had a fall at home in 2019 which aggravated injuries from a near-fatal quad bike crash in 2003, stopping his No More Tours 2 shows from going ahead in Europe and the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The tour had previously been rescheduled several times because of illness, the Covid-19 pandemic and logistical issues.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>He told US morning show Good Morning America in January 2020 that it was discovered he had the neurodegenerative disorder after a fall.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI did my last show New Year\u2019s Eve at The Forum. Then I had a bad fall. I had to have surgery on my neck, which screwed all my nerves and I found out that I have a mild form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He and wife Sharon, who was also his manager, met when she was 18 and they married on July 4 1982 in Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>Daughter Kelly, 40, duetted with her father on the UK number one single Changes in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>He released his twelfth studio album Ordinary Man in 2020, followed by Patient Number 9 in 2022, which went to number three and two in the UK charts respectively.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76, his family has announced.
