{"id":284370,"date":"2025-07-23T05:13:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T05:13:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/284370\/"},"modified":"2025-07-23T05:13:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T05:13:14","slug":"french-citiesimpose-curfews-on-children-after-drug-violence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/284370\/","title":{"rendered":"French citiesimpose curfews on children after drug violence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Announcing the curfew \u2013 in force between 21:00 and 06:00 \u2013 mayor Jean-Paul Fournier said the situation had become &#8220;untenable&#8221; and that drug traffickers had created a &#8220;climate of fear and terror&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Deputy mayor Richard Schieven said the curfew would protect minors not involved in the drug trade &#8220;but also those aged 12 or 13 who are exploited by drug traffickers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">B\u00e9ziers, 120km (75 miles) to the south-west, has had a curfew in place for children under 13 between 23:00 and 06:00 since last year and expanded it to under 15s in certain areas last March. &#8220;No 10-year-old out on the street at 02:00 is up to anything but mischief,&#8221; said mayor Robert M\u00e9nard in 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Despite the measures, B\u00e9ziers continues to be plagued by violence. At the weekend balaclava-clad youths lured police and then attacked them with fireworks, local media reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A similar incident occurred in Limoges in southwestern France.
