Tottenham Hotspur\u2019s move for a Ligue 1 star has now slowed down, and Newcastle United are now threatening to pounce on the forward.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that over the last few weeks, a number of outlets have claimed that Tottenham are plotting a move for Nice striker Evann Guessand<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was asserted by journalist Pete O\u2019Rourke two weeks ago that Spurs are optimistic about their chances of landing Guessand<\/a>, who scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions last season.<\/p>\n

Some sources even claimed last week that Tottenham are planning a \u00a322m bid\u00a0for Guessand<\/a>, but it turns out that the North London club\u2019s move for the 24-year-old has not progressed as expected.<\/p>\n

According to Africa Foot<\/a>, Nice have now confirmed that the centre-forward will be allowed to leave the club this summer, but his destination is unknown at the moment.<\/p>\n

Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> and Wolves had previously expressed an interest in the Ivory Coast international after he decided to put his move to Fenerbahce on hold.<\/p>\n

However, Spurs\u2019 negotiations over Guessand have now slowed down, while Villarreal are now regularly speaking to the striker and to Nice.<\/p>\n

The report says that Spurs<\/a> have not yet had their final say on the centre-forward, but they now face additional competition as Newcastle United have become the latest side to express interest in the player.<\/p>\n

The Magpies have now spoken to Guessand\u2019s representatives and have opened \u2018serious negotiations\u2019 with the Nice management, with the next few days expected to be decisive in the race for the striker.<\/p>\n

Thomas Frank has sent a hint about Tottenham\u2019s striker pursuit<\/p>\n

In his press conference last week, Thomas Frank hinted that Tottenham may not be signing any more forwards this summer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He also admitted that he is a fan of Richarlison, who is reportedly keen to remain at Spurs this summer<\/a>, despite speculation linking him with a move away from N17.<\/p>\n

One would think that Tottenham\u2019s decision on whether to sign a number nine would ultimately depend on whether the Brazilian stays or leaves.<\/p>\n
