Fans are calling for a permanent memorial to the ‘Prince of Darkness’ after his death aged 76<\/p>\n

Ozzy fans have launched a wave of petitions demanding the \u201cPrince of Darkness\u201d is immortalised in Birmingham<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There’s been a tremendous outpouring of grief from across the globe since the death of the Heavy Metal icon was announced by his family on Tuesday evening (July 22).<\/p>\n

His followers have suggested a statue in the city, renaming Birmingham Airport<\/a> or Download Festival in his name, and more so future generations can pay tribute to his legacy.<\/p>\n

Here is a selection of petitions calling for Osbourne to be honoured in various ways:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dan Hudson proposes Birmingham International Airport<\/a> should follow the example of John Lennon Airport in Liverpool.<\/p>\n

He said: “Ozzy’s <\/a>influence on music and culture is undeniable. Naming our international airport after him would be a fitting tribute to his extraordinary career and contributions to the arts.<\/p>\n

“Other airports in the UK are named after their famous children (George Best International Airport in Belfast, John Lennon Airport in Liverpool) so it is only right that we do this here in Birmingham, in honour of Ozzy.\u201d<\/p>\n

A second petition from Oleg Nikolenko calls on Live Nation and Festival Republic to rename Download Festival\u2019s main stage in his honour.<\/p>\n

Oleg said: “From founding Black Sabbath to headlining global stages for over five decades, Ozzy shaped the very sound and spirit that Download Festival celebrates every year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the passing of this true legend, it’s only right that we honour his immeasurable contribution to music by renaming the main stage at Download Festival as \u2018The Ozzy Osbourne Stage\u2019 or simply \u2018The Ozzy Stage\u2019.”<\/p>\n

Rebecca Swan proposes a statue close to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, highlighting Osbourne\u2019s charitable work.<\/p>\n

She said: “Ozzy has been an inspiration not only for the people of Birmingham but for the entire world. It would be wonderful to immortalise and celebrate his amazing musical legacy but also his charitable contribution to BCH and other charities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Emma Richards is urging the UK Government to grant Osbourne a state funeral.<\/p>\n
