Sheffield United are closing in on the signing of midfielder Djibril Soumar\u00e9 from Braga.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Portuguese outlet Record<\/a>, the player is set to join on loan with an obligation to buy the player at the end of the campaign.<\/p>\n

Ruben Selles is looking to bolster his midfield options, especially with Vini Souza having departed the club earlier in the summer.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old featured 23 times for Nacional in the league last season while on loan from Braga, contributing one goal and one assist as the team finished 14th in the table.<\/p>\n

Djibril Soumar\u00e9 transfer verdict<\/p>\n

When asked about the impending arrival of Soumar\u00e9, FLW\u2019s Sheffield United<\/a> fan pundit Jimmy, from Blades Ramble<\/a>, claimed that the Senegal international will bring defensive solidity to their midfield options.<\/p>\n

However, he expects competition for minutes in Selles\u2019 side to be strong, with players like Sydie Peck and a returning Ollie Arblaster to choose from.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know a little bit about Djibril Soumar\u00e9 because we\u2019ve heard the rumours, so I\u2019ve done a bit of research and we\u2019ve spoken about him on the Blades Ramble,\u201d Jimmy<\/a> told Football League World.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, is he a replacement for Vini Souza? I don\u2019t think so, particularly.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cSo if he can nab the ball off somebody and give it to Gus Hamer, or give it to Louie Barry or give it to someone who can do a bit of magic, Callum O\u2019Hare, then that is his job.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo the unpretty things well, keep it neat and tidy, keep it simple, that\u2019s what we need in the middle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe one thing I will say is we already have a really strong central-midfield with Sydie Peck there, and Ollie Arblaster coming back from injury.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the competition will be fierce.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey obviously feel that there\u2019s something to this lad because we\u2019re paying just over \u20ac1 million (\u00a3870,000) loan fee, allegedly, and then the commitment to purchase him for up to \u20ac10 (\u00a38.6) million is a big one.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut from everything we\u2019ve seen, looks a player, so low risk, get him in.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s have a look at him and see what he can do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sheffield United<\/a> will get their season underway on 9 August with a home clash against Bristol City.<\/p>\n

Sheffield United need a defensive option in midfield<\/p>\n

Losing Souza was a blow for Sheffield United<\/a> given how impressive he\u2019d been for the team last season, and his exit is a consequence of failing to get promotion.<\/p>\n

His departure means that reinforcements are needed in midfield, and bringing in someone more defensively-minded like Soumar\u00e9 makes sense given the attacking options they already have.<\/p>\n

The fee for Soumar\u00e9 to bring him on loan is also quite reasonable, and he will have one season to prove he is worth the cost of the obligation to buy him.<\/p>\n
