all signed for Leeds this summer.

Although Leeds won the Championship title with 100 points last season, the gulf in quality between the two leagues means strengthening is paramount.

Now, Leeds are reported to have set their sights on an “extraordinary” player who Aston Villa sold just months ago.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" ImagesLeeds plotting bid for Fenerbahce’s Diego Carlos

The player in question is Diego Carlos, who joined Fenerbahce from Aston Villa for around £8million in the winter transfer window.

Carlos is apparently not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans next season and, as such, he is available in the market, which has piqued Leeds’ interest.

Leeds are said to be the most serious in terms of their interest in Carlos and are ready to make a formal bid, according to Fotospor.

Sunderland and Burnley are also said to be keen on the Brazilian defender, who cost Villa £26million in 2022.

READ MORE: <a what he’s seen involving Leeds United that he thinks is absolutely ‘crazy’

Why Leeds should tread carefully over Diego Carlos

Carlos is a very talented defender with considerable experience, including in the Premier League and La Liga.

Sevilla vice-president Jose Castro previously deemed Carlos an “extraordinary professional”.

However, when a club is willing to offload a player after signing him six months prior, that should be a cause for concern.

Since arriving at Fener, Carlos has played just 188 minutes under Mourinho and has missed a total of 15 games.

Is it said that Fener are now looking to offload him this summer as they believe his injury issues could be persistent.

With that in mind, Leeds should probably look to negotiate a loan with option to buy, as there is less risk for them that way.

Leeds United have been busy strengthening their ranks ahead of their return to Premier League action in
