A mum was “knocked unconscious” by an e-bike in Liverpool city centre<\/a>. Carol Falla, from Guernsey, had been celebrating her 64th birthday with family in Liverpool on Friday, July 18, when she was “knocked to the floor” by a cyclist on an electric bike.<\/p>\n Carol says she spent over 18 hours in A&E after the accident and is now in “horrific pain.” She fears “someone could have been killed.” The 64-year-old said: “My son lives in Liverpool, he is a musician on Mathew Street<\/a>. Liverpool is like a second home for me, I adore Liverpool. I spend a lot of time here.<\/p>\n “We had been out on Friday [July 18], it was me, my son Toby, his girlfriend and our family friend. We were out celebrating mine and my son’s belated birthdays, which were earlier in July.<\/p>\n “We’d gone for a meal on Bold Street<\/a>, after the meal we’d walked down Bold Street across the traffic lights [at the junction of Hannover Street] and onto Church Street to call an Uber.<\/p>\n “I was chatting to my son and as we passed Heavenly Gifts I saw a guitar in the window. Obviously my son is a musician so I stopped and turned to the window to show my son the guitar. I didn’t even finish my sentence and I got wiped out by a man on an electric bike at some speed.”<\/p>\n The mum was “knocked to the ground” by the impact of the bike, which was “travelling at some speed.” She said: “It was a terrible impact. He hit my right side at full force. This was a 30kg bike, with the velocity of speed he was going and the weight of a fully grown man that hit me, I’m incredibly bruised and in pain.”<\/p>\n Carol says she has injuries to her arm, legs, ribs and knees. She said: “I’m all bruised and it’s incredibly painful. There is a huge bruise on my ribs, I think they could be cracked. There is a gash and bruising on my knee and leg. I couldn’t walk after it happened, I thought it [her leg] was broken.<\/p>\n “As he hit me I fell to the ground on my left side and hit my head on the ground. It knocked me out, I blacked out. I had a lump on my head the size of a cup, my son ran over, he was cradling the bump on my head. I don’t remember any of it, I don’t remember hitting my head, I was unconscious for around 40 seconds.”<\/p>\n Carol says the cyclist was “thrown from his bike”, which landed on top of her, following the accident. She said: “The young man was stunned. He was thrown in another direction, that’s how fast he was going. When I landed on the ground his bike landed on top of me. He got up and just got on his bike and rode off, he didn’t check on me or anything.”<\/p>\n Toby’s girlfriend called an ambulance and Merseyside Police<\/a> arrived at the scene. Carol was taken to A&E where she says she spent the next 18 hours being “bandaged up” and having head scans and X-Rays.<\/p>\n She said: “It happened at around 11.40pm and I got to hospital around 1am. The staff were amazing but they were so overworked, it was hectic there. I’m just very lucky there have been no lasting effects or broken bones. I can’t walk or drive at the moment. I’m lucky he hit me how he did because I think if he’d hit me in the back or front it would have been a very different outcome.”<\/p>\n Carol wants to use her story to create awareness of the danger and impact e-bikes can have. She said: “I want the law to be changed. I don’t want them to be banned, I think they’re great but they should be more regulated. They’re not supposed to go at high speed and should have a limiter on them.<\/p>\n “Someone is going to get killed if this continues, I’ve been very lucky but others might not be.
