Only three roads applied for temporary closures to host local street parties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The celebrations will kick off the weekend before the anniversary, with a parade and brass band visiting Royton Cricket Club at 12 noon on Saturday, May 3.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/0_Tommyfields-covered-market-hall-in-Oldham-1996.jpg\" alt=\"A vintage singer will be visiting Tommyfield Market on VE Day\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>A vintage singer will be visiting Tommyfield Market on VE Day(Image: Mirrorpix)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On Sunday, May 4, Royton\u2019s military veterans will host a knees-up at local pub Rumours from 1PM. The event will include a singer \u2018belting out songs from the 40s\u2019, tea, coffee and soft drinks and an option to dress-up in 40s-themed garb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Meanwhile, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/oldham\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Oldham<\/a> Council will be decorating Tommyfield Market and Yorkshire Street with bunting and hanging a commemorative card in the Spindles, outside the Next branch, where people can write meaningful messages. This will be on display from Saturday 3rd May to VE Day on Thursday 8th May.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The council is also putting on a show at Tommyfield Market on VE day itself, with a visit from vintage-style singer Abbi-Kaye (Viva la Vintage) at 10am, 12pm and 2pm on Thursday, May 8. The Barnsley-born professional events singer specialises in jazz, swing, soul and rock &amp; roll covers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1744933573_632_0_250424oldham8.jpg\" alt=\"The Civic Centre will be lit up one last time for VE Day.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>The Civic Centre will be lit up one last time for VE Day.(Image: Sean Hansford | Manchester Evening News)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Civic Tower will be lit up to mark VE Day &#8211; the last ever time OMBC plans to light up the structure. The town hall is due to move to the Old Library later this year, which will become the new building to light up during special occasions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The following weekend, Shaw will be closing down <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk\/all-about\/market-street\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Market Street<\/a> on Sunday, May 11 from 12pm until 4pm to host a family friendly \u2018tea dance\u2019. The festivities will include a 1940\u2019s fancy dress competition, a Ukulele band and a military vehicles parade. Favourite local chippy Armstrong&#8217;s Home of the Jumbo Cod will also be serving food.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Two other Cul-de-sacs have applied for street closures.
