On Saturday, July 26, thousands are expected to come to the city to celebrate Sahir\u2019s staging of Liverpool Pride.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The 2025 festivities will look a bit different from usual. The<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/liverpool-pride-cancelled-2025-devastating-31795563\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> event and march<\/a> were initially cancelled for the year, with the organisers citing &#8220;significant financial and organisational challenges&#8221; and insisting they &#8220;listened to the community&#8221; by cutting ties with sponsor Barclays. This decision created further issues with staging the annual event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">LCR Pride Foundation, the organisation behind<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/lgbtqia\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Pride in Liverpool<\/a> and the city\u2019s annual March with Pride, then &#8220;regretfully&#8221; announced in a lengthy statement<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> shared with ECHO<\/a> that the event on Saturday, July 26, would not go ahead<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, Sahir, the city\u2019s oldest<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/lgbtqia\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> LGBTQ+ charity<\/a>, has now managed \u201cto turn things around\u201d after stepping in to facilitate the event at seven weeks&#8217; notice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">While a new route, party, and location were announced, the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/lgbtqia\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Pride Quarter\u2019s festivities <\/a>will be going ahead as normal &#8211; with former Sugababes star Amelle Berrabah taking the headline slot at The Masquerade\u2019s Cumberland Street Party.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2_JS322769596.jpg\" alt=\"The venue will be a sister site to Dorothy's Showbar on Victoria Street\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Dorothy&#8217;s Showbar on Victoria Street<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And while venues throughout the city&#8217;s Pride Quarter will be packed with customers celebrating on Saturday, two venues in the heart of the area currently remain closed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Dorothy\u2019s Showbar on Victoria Street and Elysium on Eberle Street have both been closed for a lengthy period of time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The ECHO made repeated attempts to contact both venues for comment but did not receive a response.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Dorothy&#8217;s shut its door shortly after celebrating <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/whats-on-news\/noughties-duo-headlining-liverpool-pride-29101937\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Pride in Liverpool<\/a> 2023. The company deleted all its <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/instagram\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Instagram<\/a> posts and changed its bio to \u2018coming soon\u2019 at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, since this there has been no indication of when the club will return. The owner of the venue previously confirmed to<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> the ECHO<\/a> that the closure was temporary due to flooding issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The spokesperson said: \u201cDue to a burst water main pipe, Dorothy&#8217;s Showbar has been left with water damage.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_JS287185234.jpg\" alt=\"Celebrating New Years Eve outside Dorothys Showbar on Victoria Street.\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Celebrating New Year&#8217;s Eve outside Dorothy&#8217;s Showbar on Victoria Street.(Image: Andrew Teebay)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We are currently waiting for it to be fixed and will re-open in the near future.\u201d The owner has now confirmed the issues are currently being resolved in line with the landlord.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When the ECHO last spoke with the owner, they claimed the issues were being resolved with the landlord but were unable to confirm when the venue would reopen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Dorothy&#8217;s Showbar opened in January 2020 describing itself as a &#8220;popular haunt for some of the world\u2019s most famous drag queens&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Elysium nightclub, located on Eberle Street in the former Garlands venue, has also been shut for an extensive period of time. Last year, on Friday, September 13 it was gripped by a fire, having been shit prior to the blaze.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_Fire-on-Eberle-StreetLiverpool-city-centrePic-Andrew-Teebay.jpg\" alt=\"A firefighter at the scene on Eberle Street\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>A firefighter at the scene on Eberle Street(Image: Andrew Teebay Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">At the time, six fire engines surrounded the building as crews could be seen using the entrance to Elysium in order to fight the fire. <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/merseyside-fire-and-rescue-service\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Merseyside Fire and Rescue<\/a> were on scene at 3.36pm with an aerial appliance also in attendance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">On arrival crews found the three storey building had a fire in the roof space.<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/news\/liverpool-news\/city-centre-blaze-live-fire-29932805\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fought the fire<\/a> internally using two hose reel jets, with one main jet being used externally.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Eberle Street was closed while fire crews worked at the scene and several car parks on Tempest Hey were also blocked off by fire engines, preventing vehicles from leaving.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2_Fire-on-Eberle-StreetLiverpool-city-centrePic-Andrew-Teebay.jpg\" alt=\"Firefighters at the scene on Eberle Street\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Firefighters at the scene on Eberle Street(Image: Andrew Teebay Liverpool Echo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Since then, the venue has yet to reopen its doors. As of this week, the venue remains closed, with the entrance covered by a plank of wood.<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> The ECHO<\/a> has contacted Elysium Nightclub for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The company hasn\u2019t posted to any of its social media accounts since before the fire took place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When Elysium initially opened in 2023, it promised to stay true to the ethos of Garlands, \u201c<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/whats-on\/music-nightlife-news\/lost-city-centre-club-ahead-29340497\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">a nightclub before its time<\/a>\u201d. Clubbers were entertained with live music and \u201ca line-up of some of the hottest house DJs in the area&#8221;.
