Portsmouth look set to complete the signing of Hungarian youth international Mark Koszonvszky from MTK Budapest.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u00a31.2m<\/a> <\/strong>adds to what has already been a good summer window for Pompey<\/a>, with manager John Mousinho and Sporting Director Richard Hughes also seeing exciting Australian talent Adrian Segecic <\/a>and experienced ex-Reading<\/a> and West Brom<\/a> midfielder John Swift<\/a> make a return to his boyhood club.<\/p>\n

Despite these exciting additions, many Pompey<\/a> fans will be hoping to see further additions ahead of their season opener away to Oxford United<\/a> on August 9 – and FLW takes a look at two other players who could arrive in PO4 before the end of the window.<\/p>\n

Ben Whiteman<\/strong><\/p>\n

There have been rumours<\/a> circulating on social media that, should Preston<\/a> be successful in their pursuit of Callum Lang, then Whiteman could well be included as part of the deal. The 29-year-old is currently club captain<\/a> at Deepdale and appeared in all but three of their Championship games last season<\/a>, though he was, in his own words, ‘not myself’<\/a> towards the back end of the campaign.<\/p>\n

That, coupled with North End’s signing of Jordan Thompson<\/a> from Stoke City<\/a>, could alert several sides, including Pompey, to inquire for the ex-Doncaster Rovers<\/a> midfielder. Kosznovszky may well slot straight into the team in that holding midfield role, leaving space for one other alongside him. That role was mostly occupied by Andre Dozzell last season, though Whiteman would certainly push the ex-Ipswich Town midfielder hard for a place in the Pompey engine room.<\/p>\n\n

Rhian Brewster<\/strong><\/p>\n

This could be a bit of a left-field selection for Pompey, as Brewster was reportedly<\/a> one of Sheffield United’<\/a>s highest earners, so the board may have a struggle financing it (especially as he probably wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter).<\/p>\n

Having arrived for a then-club-record fee of \u00a323.5m from Liverpool in October 2020,<\/a> Brewster struggled for consistency in his time in South Yorkshire, although he did return his joint-best season output in a Blades shirt last year.<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Those stats don’t make for pretty reading, although the ex-England youth international was plagued by injury issues at Bramall Lane. Pompey, however, will be on the lookout for a back-up striker due to fan favourite Kusini Yengi’s departure for Aberdeen<\/a>, and the U17 World Cup winner could well be the man to push Colby Bishop for a starting spot.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, he endeared himself to Blades fans by scoring the winner at Hillsborough last season in the Steel City derby, something Pompey would hope that he could replicate, with the return of the South Coast derby this season<\/a>.<\/p>\n
