{"id":289131,"date":"2025-07-24T23:26:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T23:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/289131\/"},"modified":"2025-07-24T23:26:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T23:26:16","slug":"meghan-markles-meet-me-at-the-lake-may-never-happen-source","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/289131\/","title":{"rendered":"Meghan Markle\u2019s \u2018Meet Me at the Lake\u2019 may never happen: source"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prince Harry and Meghan Markle\u2019s remaining Netflix projects may be on ice as their exclusive<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/07\/23\/celebrity-news\/meghan-markles-exclusive-100m-netflix-deal-is-done-but-more-tv-projects-are-coming-soon-from-her-and-prince-harry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> multi-million dollar deal <\/a>comes to an end, Page Six is told.<\/p>\n<p>The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced with great fanfare, back in August 2023, that they were producing a film adaptation of Carley Fortune\u2019s hit romance novel, \u201cMeet Me at the Lake\u201d for the streamer.<\/p>\n<p>But we\u2019re told Archewell productions has yet to hire a director or come anywhere close to picking a cast.<\/p>\n<p>Meghan Markle\u2019s show \u201cWith Love, Meghan\u201d was at No. 383, Netlix announced last week \u2014 with a total of 5.3 million views since its March 4 debut. Netflix<\/p>\n<p>Netflix spent an estimated $3 million buying the rights to Carley Fortune\u2019s novel \u201cMeet Me at the Lake\u201d for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to produce. Berkley<\/p>\n<p>Netflix is believed to have paid out around <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/08\/07\/netflix-spent-millions-on-harry-meghans-hollywood-domination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$3 million for the rights <\/a>to the book for the duo to produce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy this point, you would have thought they would have got a director on board and a cast. So what is the delay?\u201d asked a Hollywood source. \u201cAnd when you make something for Netflix, it takes a long time for it to actually hit the streamer \u2014 there is so much to do in post production, to make sure it\u2019s ready for every country. If the deal is up this year, then when is this film going to be made?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple were also working on a documentary set in Africa \u2014 albeit without Harry, 40, or Markle, 43, appearing. This, too, may be on the back burner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s the betting that neither of these projects will see the light of day?\u201d said a source in the know.<\/p>\n<p>The Sussexes\u2019 exclusive deal with Netflix has come to an end \u2014 but they are set to sign a first-look deal with the streamer. Yes \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n<p>As Page Six previously reported, the Sussexes\u2019 Netflix deal <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/07\/05\/royal-family\/prince-harry-meghan-markle-have-to-save-cash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">will end this year,<\/a> and the couple may move to a first-look contract, like President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle\u2019s production company, Higher Ground, has. This week, sources were quick to tell us, however, that there will be more TV shows from the renegade royals.<\/p>\n<p>We have reached out to Sussex reps.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix has also been working with Markle on her <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/01\/07\/royal-family\/netflix-helping-launch-meghan-markles-lifestyle-brand-sources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As Ever range <\/a>which includes her ros\u00e9 wine, jams, tea and honey. Her show, \u201cWith Love, Meghan,\u201d will return for season 2 in September, so that production partnership doesn\u2019t seem to be going anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>The couple\u2019s biggest hit for Netflix has been their show \u201cHarry &amp; Meghan,\u201d in which they spoke about their departure from the royal family. Netflix<\/p>\n<p>Markle broke down in tears on the Netflix show, which was the streamer\u2019s biggest-rated documentary premiere. Netflix<\/p>\n<p>The Netflix cash has been reported to be $100 million, although it\u2019s believed to be closer to $20 million. It was, indeed, a big chunk of the Sussexes\u2019 fortune.<\/p>\n<p>So far, their biggest Netflix success has been \u201cHarry &amp; Meghan,\u201d which\u00a0debuted in December 2022 with 81.55 million hours viewed \u2014 making it the highest viewed documentary premiere for the streaming platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s be honest \u2026 Netflix got what they really wanted out of the Sussexes \u2014 their documentary,\u201d said the source in the know of \u201cHarry &amp; Meghan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sussexes\u2019 \u201cPolo\u201d docu-series didn\u2019t fare so well.
