{"id":289171,"date":"2025-07-24T23:47:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T23:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/289171\/"},"modified":"2025-07-24T23:47:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-24T23:47:11","slug":"four-in-10-feel-muslim-immigrants-have-negative-impact-on-uk-polling-suggests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/289171\/","title":{"rendered":"Four in 10 feel Muslim immigrants have negative impact on UK, polling suggests"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The findings have been described by an imam as \u201cdeeply worrying\u201d, and showing \u201chigh levels of anti-Muslim sentiment\u201d in Britain.<\/p>\n<p>The polling was commissioned by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community ahead of a gathering for what it described as the UK\u2019s biggest Muslim convention \u2013 the Jalsa Salana \u2013 this weekend in Hampshire, expected to be attended by 40,000 followers of the faith.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s convention is \u201copening its doors to sceptics of Islam and those with any questions about the faith\u201d, organisers said \u2013 noting that two Reform UK voters are due to attend to hear about the religion.<\/p>\n<p>The YouGov survey of 2,130 adults in Great Britain in mid-July asked people if they felt different groups of immigrants by religion generally have a positive or negative impact on the UK.<\/p>\n<p>While 41% said Muslim immigrants have a negative impact, the proportions feeling this way were much lower for other groups.<\/p>\n<p>Around 15% felt this way about Hindu immigrants, 14% about Sikh immigrants, 13% about Jewish immigrants and 7% about Christian immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>Just under a quarter (24%) of respondents felt Muslim immigrants had a positive impact on the UK, lower than for any of the other religions stated.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner urged Labour colleagues to acknowledge people\u2019s \u201creal concerns\u201d, pointing out that immigration was one of a number of factors having a \u201cprofound impact on society\u201d, as she updated Cabinet on her work on social cohesion.<\/p>\n<p>Some 53% of those polled said they believed Islam is not compatible with British values, while 25% said it is and 22% said they did not know.<\/p>\n<p>Sabah Ahmedi, aged 30\u00a0 and known as \u201cthe young imam\u201d online \u2013 where he has a large following, said he believes fear among people \u201cstems from a lack of understanding of Islam\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/2.77070300.jpg\" alt=\"Imam Sabah Ahmedi \" data-title=\"Imam Sabah Ahmedi \" data-copyright-holder=\"PA Media\" data-copyright-notice=\"PA Media\" data-credit=\"Family Handout\" data-usage-terms=\"PICTURE DESK USE ONLY. HANDOUT\"  \/>Imam Sabah Ahmedi said fear is born of a lack of understanding of the Islamic faith (Family Handout\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThese findings are deeply worrying, revealing high levels of anti-Muslim sentiment in this country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a British Muslim, it is tragic to think that we are disliked or hated because of our religious beliefs.
