UPDATE 2:<\/strong> SpaceX’s VP of Starlink Engineering Michael Nicolls says<\/a>: “Starlink has now mostly recovered from the network outage, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours.”<\/p>\n

Without elaborating, he blamed the disruption on a “failure of key internal software services that operate the core network.” SpaceX plans to “fully root cause” the issue to prevent a repeat, Nicolls added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, T-Mobile told PCMag that the “T-Satellite service is operating normally with no network impacts or outages.”<\/p>\n

UPDATE:<\/strong> Some Starlink users are starting<\/a> to receive access again. PCMag’s Brian Westover told us he was offline for nearly two hours before his satellite internet was restored in rural Idaho.<\/p>\n

At first, it was a hard issue to diagnose, Westover says. SpaceX’s Starlink app was warning that his Starlink dish had become obstructed, even though there are no trees around his house. “It is a real pain, though, because there’s no way to really tell if the problem is your own hardware, and can be fixed with troubleshooting, or if it’s on Starlink’s end,” he says. <\/p>\n

Doug Madory, director of Internet Analysis at Kentik, says the two-plus-hour outage makes “this incident Starlink’s longest outage since becoming a major service provider.”<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the official website<\/a> for Starlink continues to say it’s experiencing an outage. Other customers report<\/a> their Starlink service remains shut down. <\/p>\n

On X, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk apologized for the outage. “SpaceX will remedy root cause to ensure it doesn\u2019t happen again,” he tweeted.<\/p>\n

SpaceX\u2019s Starlink appears to be suffering a major outage that\u2019s shut off satellite internet access for consumers across the globe.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Users on Facebook, Reddit, and X.com have all reported<\/a> losing access to the satellite internet system, which serves over 6 million users worldwide. Users in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Europe have all reported service disruptions.<\/p>\n

“Starlink is currently in a network outage and we are actively implementing a solution,” the company posted<\/a> on X. “We appreciate your patience, we’ll share an update once this issue is resolved.”<\/p>\n

Outage complaints are surging<\/a> on Downdetector.com, spiking at around noon PT with 55,000 reports. It seems to have taken down Starlink.com, too. As recently as 30 minutes ago, it displayed a banner that said “Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating,” but Starlink.com is not loading at the moment, nor is its Availability Map<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jianping Pan<\/a>, a computer science professor at the University of Victoria in Canada who researches satellite internet systems, says he’s facing connection problems. \u201cWe have access to about 20 Starlink dishes around the world\u2014all down at this moment of the time,\u201d he tells us.<\/p>\n

So far, SpaceX hasn’t responded to a request for comment. We’ll update this story as it evolves.<\/p>\n

Over 2 million<\/a> Americans subscribe to Starlink. Yesterday, T-Mobile launched<\/a> its cellular Starlink service, which provides messaging access in cellular dead zones.<\/p>\n
