(NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014 Readers of this column must be having a bit of deja vu.<\/p>\n News \u201cbroke\u201d in outlets like Peop<\/a>l<\/a>e<\/a> and Page Six<\/a> on Wednesday that Netflix isn\u2019t renewing its $100 million dollar deal with Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle Sussex.<\/p>\n This, despite the fact that the same news actually broke exclusively in this column last March when I wrote the streamer was \u201cdone\u201d with her<\/a>, despite announcing an already filmed \u201csecond season\u201d of her bland cookery and entertainment show, \u201cWith Love, Meghan.\u201d<\/p>\n King Charles offers candid health update after cancer diagnosis <\/a><\/p>\n As I wrote on March 7:<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s necessary for a second season because Netflix has sunk so much money into as ever \u2014 and she can promote the products in the second season she couldn\u2019t promote in this one due to all the trademark hassle,\u201d the insider said. \u201cBut yeah, they\u2019re still done \u2014 they\u2019re trying to recoup the investment.\u201d<\/p>\n Meghan, Harry have had little success at Netflix besides docuseries <\/p>\n Not that anyone should be shocked \u2014 Markle and Prince Harry haven\u2019t had any success with their $100 million Netflix deal other than their 2022 docuseries \u201cHarry & Meghan,\u201d in which they spilled all the royal tea about Harry\u2019s relatives. The other shows they created \u2014 \u201cHeart of Invictus,\u201d \u201cLive to Lead\u201d and Harry\u2019s \u201cPolo\u201d \u2014 bombed.<\/p>\n And \u201cWith Love, Meghan\u201d \u2014 panned as \u201cvain\u201d, \u201cnarcissistic\u201d and \u201cpointless\u201d<\/a> by critics and fans alike \u2014 was an expensive show to make. The show\u2019s director, Mike Steed, worked with Anthony Bourdain on the CNN show \u201cParts Unknown,\u201d and given the rent on the $5 million home she shot in, insiders surmise each episode\u2019s cost ran into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I can\u2019t wait for people to also claim my other scoop that Netflix will attempt to keep Markle around \u2014 at least for one more season of \u201cWith Love\u201d\u2014 as part of a piecemeal deal so it can try once more to make her product line \u201cAs Ever\u201d a commercial hit.<\/p>\n \u2018With Love, Meghan\u2019 will get third season<\/p>\n As I wrote on June 5<\/a>: \u201cMarkle will be granted a third season, regardless of viewership, as Netflix is invested in making her product line and show a success\u2026 It is the first time Netflix has fully produced a product line and, like QVC or Home Shopping Network, sees it as a new cash cow for them (doing shows and selling products from these shows that Netflix manufactures).\u201d<\/p>\n Food Network star Anne Burrell died by suicide <\/a><\/p>\n But Markle is facing an uphill battle. Despite name recognition worldwide and mountains of press, her show didn\u2019t even break the top 300 shows of the year for Netflix and her popularity ratings are dismal. Her agency, WME, is on the verge of dropping her<\/a>, and she has been accused of using her royal title<\/a> (something she is not supposed to do) to make money. <\/p>\n Meghan behind Prince Harry, King Charles truce<\/p>\n So it is no wonder that she endorsed her and Harry\u2019s new PR team meeting with palace reps earlier this month. <\/p>\n As one insider told me last week<\/a>: \u201c(Meghan) realizes she miscalculated when she orchestrated Megxit and then basically smeared the Royal family in the Oprah Winfrey interview and the Netflix docuseries\u2026 \u201dThe royal family does not need Harry or Meghan,\u201d my insider said. \u201cBut Harry and Meghan need the royal family\u2026 they are only valuable individually if they are tied to the royal family. Being \u2018Royal\u2019 translates to money and deals for them.
