joined the chorus of humanitarians urging EU leaders to move past \u201chollow statements\u201d and impose sanctions. \u201cThe lack of decisive action from the EU leadership over the last 21 months gives them a crushing responsibility for the atrocities we see happening in Gaza,\u201d said Maria Luz Larosa, head of international affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Omar Shakir, Israel and Palestine director at Human Rights Watch, said the EU\u2019s inaction so far had given Israel a \u201cgreen light to press forward with its ongoing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide against Palestinians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The exhortations coincided with some tougher language from European capitals on Israel\u2019s treatment of the Gaza population. <\/p>\n<p>On Thursday evening, French President Emmanuel Macron said France will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/france-palestine-statehood-emmanuel-macron-middle-east-war-gaza\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">formally recognize Palestinian statehood<\/a>. \u201cThe urgency today is to end the war in Gaza and to provide aid to the civilian population,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/EmmanuelMacron\/status\/1948462359468802252\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Keir_Starmer\/status\/1948446458216058927?t=IYIMaryPJ8IyHnjSVSchCA&amp;s=08\" target=\"_blank\">released a strongly worded statement<\/a> describing \u201cthe suffering and starvation unfolding in Gaza [as] unspeakable and indefensible,\u201d adding that \u201cwe are clear that statehood is the inalienable right of the Palestinian people\u201d \u2014 which is further
