British tourists are sometimes named a &#8216;guiri&#8217; by locals when in Spain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">According to Lee Bell, a Brit who regularly travels to Barcelona, the name is believed to come from the Basque word &#8216;giri&#8217;, which means &#8216;blond&#8217; or &#8216;fair-skinned&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Lee explains: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/spain\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Spanish locals now use &#8216;guiri&#8217; <\/a>to refer to all types of foreign tourists, especially those from English-speaking countries.
