Consultant psychiatrist Ahmed Hankir, who is known on social media as @profahmedhankir, has taken to TikTok to share the sign you should watch out for in yourself and others.

To start, he says psychopaths can be “master manipulators” because they’re cunning, calculated and know exactly how to prey on your vulnerabilities. He said: “They will come across as sincere and disarming to slowly earn your trust but once they see a crack, they exploit it until you are emotionally drained and discarded.”

He says most people don’t realising this is happening until it’s too late, leaving them to pick themselves up at the end.

Next, he added: “Sign two is grandiose sense of self-worth. They don’t just think they are special, they know it, as if it a scientific fact.

“They see themselves as superior to others and believe rules apply to everyone else but not to them. Laws, morals, boundaries, these are for other people. In their mind, they are above reproach.”

One most people might be familiar with thanks to depictions of psychopath in movies, professor Hankir went on to speak about their lack of remorse or guilt.

READ MORE: ‘My entitled neighbour keeps blocking my driveway – I might need to take drastic action’Content cannot be displayed without consent

He said: “Psychopath can devastated lives yet they show no remorse. You might find yourself wondering if they even have a heart.”

Following this, he says psychopaths commonly have a “superficial charm”, coming across as incredibly charismatic and witty to start with before completely switching up on you.

He says overtime this charm becomes “performative, hollow and unsettling”, leading to the mask slipping off entirely at the end.

Finally, he says they can be callous and lack empathy, with this shown through their actions towards animals, friends, family or strangers.

He said: “They can be ruthlessly cruel through words or actions.
