Emelie Fraser from the Mackintosh School of Architecture has been named winner of the 19th 3DReid Student Prize<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Fraser secured the honour after joining four other finalists in Manchester to present her work, \u201cO Parque dos Mortos\u201d, which rethinks cemetery design from a place of death to a bringer of life via urban renewal.<\/p>\n

The part II architecture student explored the architectural embodiment of death, earning the praise of judges for her sensitive exploration of a taboo subject and a graceful response to grieving and remembrance.<\/p>\n

Identifying a dramatic cliff face above the Tagus in Lisbon, Portugal, Fraser conceived a sequence of spaces to transport visitors through the stages of grief, including a hall of memories and garden of reflection.<\/p>\n

Runners up were Drew Rumgay of the University of Dundee; James Fan, at the Royal College of Art in London; Kaja Hayes of the University of Greenwich and Lee Thackray of Northumbria University.<\/p>\n\n\n
