The Princess Royal will celebrate her 75th birthday on August 15.

Anne, who is widely regarded as one of the most popular royals, has reportedly rejected any form of public birthday party to mark the occasion. Instead the Royal Mint will be releasing a commemorative coin to celebrate her. The uncirculated £5 coin will set Anne fans back £17.50 and comes complete with an information pack about the princess. The Royal Mint says it “celebrates the legacy of one of the longest-serving members of the British Royal Family”.

On the Pod Save the King podcast, The Daily Mirror’s Deputy Royal Editor Jennifer Newton explained: “The Royal Mint has made their first commemorative coin for Princess Anne so it’s quite interesting to think that she has never had anything like this before, but yeah, it’s the first coin that has Anne’s depiction on it. It has Anne on one side and the King on the other and she’s approved it.

“Apparently this is all we’re going to get when it comes to her birthday, which is in a few weeks time, she turns 75. According to reports she doesn’t want to have any fuss, no big celebration, nothing, this is the only thing.”

Mirror Online’s Executive Editor Anne Gripper described Anne as “a no fuss Royal”. Prompting Newton to add: “This shows she doesn’t want any fuss, she just wants to get on with the day and she’ll probably just be doing what she always does, working, like the workhorse she is. No special plans for her birthday.”

Anne is widely considered “the hardest working” member of the Royal Family. In 2024 Anne carried out 395 engagements in the UK and another 79 abroad, more than any other royal.

It was the fourth year in a row that the Princess Royal topped the list. Experts have credited Anne’s success to her desire to carry out multiple engagements in a single day.

Anne is known to “pop in and out” of engagements in a helicopter due to time constraints. Commentators however note that she has always “done the reading” and remains “thoroughly committed”.

On the Right Royal Podcast, Andrea Caamano recalled a moment she witnessed Anne’s preparation. She said: “I actually did see Princess Anne once, on the street, and she was on her official cart and she was reading notes ahead of going to an event, so there we go, hard-working.”

Anne’s crown as the hardest-working royal however faces some stiff competition this year. King Charles has reportedly performed a quarter of the Royal Family’s engagements in the first quarter of 2025.

He completed nearly 260 engagements out of a grand total of 1,100 from the start of the year to May 31, Write Royalty reports. Speaking to UK newspapers in Rome earlier this year, Queen Camilla said: “He (Charles) loves his work and it keeps him going.

“And I think it’s wonderful, you know, if you’ve been ill and you are recovering, you’re getting better and now he wants to do more and more and more. That’s the problem. That’s what he’s driven by.
