{"id":290838,"date":"2025-07-25T14:46:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T14:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/290838\/"},"modified":"2025-07-25T14:46:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T14:46:10","slug":"zelenskyy-says-3-patriot-systems-secured-dw-07-25-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/290838\/","title":{"rendered":"Zelenskyy says 3 Patriot systems secured \u2013 DW \u2013 07\/25\/2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>07\/25\/2025July 25, 2025Russian parliament approves bill punishing &#8216;extremist&#8217; online searches<\/p>\n<p>The upper house of the Russian parliament approved a bill that penalizes <a class=\"internal-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/russia-to-fine-people-for-searching-for-extremist-content\/a-73374515\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online searches for information officially labeled &#8220;extremist.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is the latest in a series of moves by authorities to tighten control of the internet.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation makes what it describes as &#8220;deliberately searching for and accessing extremist materials&#8221; online punishable by a fine of up to the equivalent of $64 (\u20ac54).<\/p>\n<p>The bill, which was endorsed by the lower house earlier this week, is now set to be signed into law by President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p>In Russia, the official definition of extremist activity is extremely broad and includes opposition groups such as the Anti-Corruption Foundation, which was created by the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, as well as the &#8220;international LGBT movement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear how the authorities will track down violators. According to officials and lawmakers, only those who methodically seek outlawed content will be targeted, and ordinary internet users won&#8217;t be affected.<\/p>\n<p>However, no explanation was offered as to how authorities would differentiate between them. Many Russians use VPN services to access banned content.
