One out-of-contract Sheffield Wednesday man has been spotted in training, with him set to play for Danny Rohl\u2019s side in a behind-closed-doors friendly.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> have undergone a tumultuous off-season, with the 2025\/26 Championship season just two weeks away from setting off.<\/p>\n

To suggest that Sheffield Wednesday are underprepared for the upcoming season<\/a> would be an understatement and a half \u2013 the first-team squad has been stripped to the bare bones, and it looks likely that the departures will continue at Hillsborough.<\/p>\n

Several of the current Owls stars have been left in doubt over their future at the club, including Barry Bannan, who is yet to be offered fresh terms at Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> despite a clear desire to remain at the club.<\/p>\n

Another out-of-contract Owls man also faces uncertainty; however, his return to Sheffield Wednesday training has been confirmed by the club.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It has been confirmed, via the club website<\/a>, that Callum Paterson has returned to Sheffield Wednesday training, having been part of the squad at Middlewood Road since last week.<\/p>\n

The Owls man was also pictured on the website as he prepares to take part in their upcoming behind-closed-doors friendly vs Mansfield Town.<\/p>\n

It was reported that Sheffield Wednesday had opened up talks for Paterson to rejoin<\/a> the club, although a breakthrough is yet to be found.<\/p>\n

Barry Bannan has also been confirmed to still be training with Sheffield Wednesday.<\/p>\n

As Sheffield Wednesday\u2019s numbers in the first team continue to be depleted by Dejphon Chansiri, it becomes much more obvious that Callum Paterson would be a key component to Danny Rohl\u2019s squad if he can be brought back in.<\/p>\n

Paterson has shown immense versatility throughout his career \u2013 it is difficult to name a position where he hasn\u2019t played for Sheffield Wednesday, besides goalkeeper, although it could confidently be said that he wouldn\u2019t be opposed.<\/p>\n

Sheffield Wednesday will be without squad depth, as well as leaders next season \u2013 Paterson would help ensure that there is a leader and someone who is \u2018experienced\u2019, as he was labelled by Dom Howson<\/a>, in the dressing room, and one who could help ease any expectations on the younger players in the squad.<\/p>\n
