(Getty Images)\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">Feeling generous?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">Well, Venmo and PayPal are now allowing users to help pay off the nation\u2019s growing debt.<\/p>\n<p> Help pay off the country\u2019s debt  <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"livenowfox.com\/news\/you-can-now-help-pay-down-nations-debt-through-venmo-paypal\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-bd34935e=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">Allowing the public to help pay down the United States\u2019 ballooning debt isn\u2019t a new thing.<\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">The U.S. Treasury Department has been accepting gifts to reduce debt held by the public for many years.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"livenowfox.com\/news\/you-can-now-help-pay-down-nations-debt-through-venmo-paypal\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-bd34935e=\"\">Dig deeper:<\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">What\u2019s new is that you can now make contributions digitally\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pay.gov\/public\/form\/start\/23779454\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">through Venmo or PayPal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"livenowfox.com\/news\/you-can-now-help-pay-down-nations-debt-through-venmo-paypal\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-bd34935e=\"\">By the numbers:<\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">Since 1996, people have contributed\u00a0$67.3 million to pay down the national debt, which has since grown to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fiscaldata.treasury.gov\/americas-finance-guide\/national-debt\/#tracking-the-debt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">whopping $34 trillion.<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">The total money gifted toward the national debt amounts to about 20 minutes&#8217; worth of debt,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/07\/24\/venmo-gifts-public-debt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to an Axios report.<\/a><\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">Axios estimates that the national debt is growing just under $55,000 a second.<\/p>\n<p data-v-bd34935e=\"\">According to the Peter\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgpf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">G.
