{"id":292134,"date":"2025-07-26T02:19:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T02:19:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/292134\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T02:19:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T02:19:11","slug":"thousands-of-retained-firefighters-owed-pension-payments-union-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/292134\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands of retained firefighters owed pension payments, union says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">So far the FRSA estimates about 16,000 people have come forward to make a claim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Many of them have received lump sum payments of tens of thousands of pounds, plus monthly payments going forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But the union estimates at least 10,000 more are eligible but haven&#8217;t yet put in a claim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It&#8217;s urging them to contact their former employer to find out how to put in a claim or message the union <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frsa.org.uk\/contact-us\/\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">via its website, external<\/a> to get help and advice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A spokesperson for the Ministry of Housing, Communities &amp; Local Government said: &#8220;It&#8217;s essential our firefighters get the pensions they have earned as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Fire and rescue authorities are responsible for the administration of the pensions, and the government is supporting them to address issues raised by firefighters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A Local Government Association spokesperson said: &#8220;Some individuals have service that goes back as far as the 1960s and Fire and Rescue Authorities have been working tirelessly in trying to trace some individuals, to ensure that they do not miss out on this opportunity.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"So far the FRSA estimates about 16,000 people have come forward to make a claim.
