When looked at as a whole, the first six months of the year saw retail sales up 1.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Filling up the car for day trips to take advantage of the sun played an important role in the retail sales growth.<\/p>\n<p>When fuel is excluded, the rise was smaller, just 0.6%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welcome news<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite lower consumer sentiment and more expensive goods, consumers are benefitting from <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/weaker-jobs-market-makes-interest-rate-cut-more-likely-13397766\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>rising wages<\/strong><\/a> and are cutting back on savings.<\/p>\n<p>     <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/download-app\" target=\"blank\" data-tracking-label=\"ui-app-promo-download-link\" class=\"ui-app-promo sdc-article-widget\" data-type=\"\" data-component-name=\"ui-app-promo\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The ONS lifestyle survey &#8211; backed up by hard data like the Bank of England&#8217;s money and credit figures &#8211; shows that households have rebuilt their rainy day savings and are cutting back on the amount of money they squirrel away each month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Retail sales grew in June as warm weather boosted spending and day trips, official figures show.
