The announcement on the strategic dialogue reopened a consultation mechanism that has been suspended since the Russian invasion began, Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk told the Times of Israel.<\/p>\n

The focus will be on Iran for the foreseeable future, Korniychuk saiid: \u201cWe have been shot with the same drones. We have the same enemies.\u201d<\/p>\n
The two countries will work to prevent collaboration between common enemies, and to advance sanctions against them, said Korniychuk.<\/p>\n
The next phase of the dialogue will take place when Sybiha visits Israel, which Sa\u2019ar on Wednesday invited him to do.<\/p>\n
\u201cIran not only threatened Israel,\u201d Sa\u2019ar said at the press conference. \u201cIt threatened regional and global security. It threatened Ukraine. Our actions against its weapons and technology contribute to European security \u2014 and to the security of Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sa\u2019ar said that Israel\u2019s strikes on Iran last month, when it attacked Tehran\u2019s nuclear enrichment facilities and weapons production, \u201csent its nuclear ambitions years back.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe severely harmed its ballistic missile program,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd we also harmed the Iranian drone supply \u2014 the very same technology being used against Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zelensky said he spoke with Sa\u2019ar about \u201cstrengthening Ukraine\u2019s air defense.\u201d Zelensky has long expressed<\/a> a desire to have capabilities akin to Israel\u2019s Iron Dome missile defense system.<\/p>\n In a post on X, Zelensky expressed gratitude for Sa\u2019ar\u2019s visit and Israel\u2019s \u201csupport of Ukraine and Ukrainians.\u201d<\/p>\n The pair discussed \u201ccooperation, primarily in the economic and defense sectors, strengthening of Ukraine\u2019s air defense, and opportunities for joint weapons production,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n He also thanked Israel for its \u201cdecision to provide assistance for water supply systems in the southern regions\u201d and said he hopes for help in \u201chumanitarian demining of contaminated areas.\u201d<\/p>\n \t Ukraine\u2019s Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga (C-R) speaks with Israel\u2019s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar (C-L) look at a Russian Shahed \u201cGeran-2\u201d drone displayed outside the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry before their meeting in Kyiv on July 23, 2025. (Tetiana DZHAFAROVA \/ AFP)<\/p>\n In the Israeli readout of their meeting, Sa\u2019ar said the pair discussed strengthening bilateral ties, the war in Ukraine, and \u201cthe situation in the Middle East, with an emphasis on Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n Sa\u2019ar also met with Artem Borik, whose family was killed in an Iranian missile strike on Bat Yam during Israel\u2019s war with Iran. Borik lost his 7-year-old daughter, Nastia \u2014 who had come to Israel for cancer treatment \u2014 his wife, Maria, Maria\u2019s mother, and two of Nastia\u2019s cousins, ages 9 and 13.<\/p>\n Borik, who is serving in Ukraine\u2019s armed forces during its war with Russia, was unable to accompany his daughter to Israel due to wartime restrictions preventing men under the age of 60 from leaving the country.<\/p>\n \u201cWith a heavy heart, I met Artem in Kyiv,\u201d Sa\u2019ar said in a statement from his office. \u201cI expressed my condolences and our shared grief over this tragic and devastating loss.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI told Artem that all of Israel stands with him in his pain.
