If you don&#8217;t meet certain criteria when travelling to one of 29 countries, you could find yourself turned away.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The UK Foreign Office has directed people to the site, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/citizens\/travel\/entry-exit\/non-eu-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Your EuropeLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Your Europe<\/a>, if you&#8217;re travelling to the Schengen area. This area includes countries popular with British tourists such as Spain, France, Greece, Italy and Portugal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The EU applies a unified set of visa rules for short-term stay &#8211; up to 90 days within any 180-day period &#8211; as well as for transit through <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/all-about\/travel-advice\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"international airport transit Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">international airport transit <\/a>zones within the Schengen Area. These countries issue visas under their own national rules.&#8221; You can <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/embassies\/index_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"check the embassy \/ consulateLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">check the embassy \/ consulate<\/a> for more information on entry requirements and how to apply for a visa for one of these countries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you have a valid visa or residence permit issued by one of the Schengen area countries, you may also use it for travel to Cyprus. The travel experts further warn that &#8220;visas or residence permits issued by Cyprus are not valid for travel to countries in the Schengen area.&#8221; You must <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/citizens\/travel\/entry-exit\/non-eu-family\/index_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"check the specific rules that apply if you have a residence card as a family member of an EU citizenLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">check the specific rules that apply if you have a residence card as a family member of an EU citizen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Before travelling, ensure your passport meets the entry requirements or face being turned away &#8211; and your holiday ruined, reports <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/travel\/uk-passport-warning-travel-29-35611039\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"the MirrorLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months after the date you intend to leave the EU<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">and it must have been issued within the last 10 years<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Your Europe explained: &#8220;This means your <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclelive.co.uk\/all-about\/travel\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"travel Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">travel <\/a>document must have been issued within the previous 10 years the day you enter the EU on condition that it is valid until the end of your stay plus an additional 3 months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Children and minors must have their own passport and visa, if required. You may also have to produce other supporting documents to border officials upon arrival such as an invitation letter, proof of lodging, return or round-trip ticket. For the exact requirements <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/embassies\/index_en.htm\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"contact the embassy \/ consulateLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">contact the embassy \/ consulate<\/a> of the EU country you are intending to visit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you don&#8217;t live within the EU, and you don&#8217;t fulfil the entry conditions set out in the Schengen Borders Code, an EU or Schengen country may refuse you entry, Your Europe warns travellers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Under these rules you must have a:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">valid travel document<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">visa (if needed, except if you hold a valid residence permit or a valid long stay visa)<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">justification for the purpose and specifics of your stay (including proof of sufficient financial means)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">You can dispute the decision though if this happens. The experts explained: &#8220;If you have been refused entry, you have the right to appeal this decision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Your appeal will be handled in accordance with national law in the country where you were refused entry.
