Hundreds of people have gathered<\/a> in Glasgow city centre to oppose a \u2018mass deportation\u2019 rally.<\/p>\n Protestors came together on July 26 on Buchanan Street to oppose a rally organised by the UK Independence Party (UKIP), billed as a \u201cmass deportation\u201d march<\/a>.<\/p>\n In a post announcing the march, UKIP said the demonstration<\/a> would \u201csend a message to Holyrood that we are taking our country back,\u201d adding: \u201cthe people of Glasgow demand mass-deportations.\u201d<\/p>\n UKIP estimated<\/a> 200 would attend the march through the city centre.<\/p>\n The party has never had any elected representatives in Glasgow. It has not represented any Scottish seat at Westminster, and has never<\/a> had a member elected to Holyrood.<\/p>\n At the general election in 2024, UKIP did not<\/a> stand a single candidate in Glasgow. Councillor Dan Hutchison, elected representative of Govan, called on the council to ban the \u201cfascist\u201d march.<\/p>\n The Green Party councillor said: \u201cI believe the actions and words of the organisers are an incitement to violence and a risk to public safety and order on our streets. UKIP use phrases<\/a> like \u201cthese streets are our streets\u201d and \u201cwe will protect ourselves\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cWell, they aren\u2019t their streets, they belong to the people of Glasgow.
